LSU running back Derrius Guice was included in Steve Palazzolo's list of 10 early candidates for the 2017 Heisman trophy.
quote:

7. Derrius Guice, RB, LSU
As Heisman candidate Leonard Fournette battled injuries all season, Guice took advantage of his opportunities and flourished, finishing with an 83.3 rushing grade that ranked seventh among running backs. He was a big-play threat waiting to happen as 58.6 percent of his yards came on breakaway (15-plus yard) runs, third-highest in the country. With Guice’s big-play ability and LSU’s new misdirection-heavy offense, we may see monster numbers in 2017 with a full workload.
Palazzolo included edge rusher Arden Key in the others the watch section.

The winner is usually somebody that's not on the preseason radar.

I love the term misdirection offense. Awesome! Can you imagine the Tigers confusing defenses finally after all the predictable years under Miles. Guice and everyone on offense should thrive! Very excited. September can't get here fast enough! Oh yeah, Guice is definitely a Heisman contender! Although I'll take a NC over a Heisman any day! I'm sure Guice would too!

Watson should have won it. Lamar can't run or pass against a quality defense.

I agree about Watson. The Heisman should be awarded after all games have been played.
