No. 1 Recruit Jalen Brewster Shuts Down Recruitment, Will Sign With Texas Tech Over LSU

LSU's push to flip the nation's No. 1 recruit has come up short.

Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster has shut down his recruitment and reaffirmed his commitment to Texas Tech, according to multiple reports. Brewster, the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2027 class according to Rivals and ESPN, had been committed to the Red Raiders since October 2025.

LSU emerged as Texas Tech's biggest threat in recent months, with Lane Kiffin and his staff making a strong push following Brewster's visit to Baton Rouge. The 6-foot-3, 300-plus-pound defensive tackle ultimately decided to stick with Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders.

"I feel like Texas Tech is the best place for me and the best place to build my own legacy," Brewster told Rivals.

Brewster recently transferred from Cedar Hill (Texas) to national powerhouse Buford (Ga.) for his senior season and plans to graduate in December, putting him in position to enroll early at Texas Tech.
