Two independent sources close to the Tigers' basketball program said Tuesday that sophomore Jarell Martin has decided to submit his name for the 2015 NBA Draft and forfeit the final two years of college eligibility.

One source said Martin informed LSU coach Johnny Jones, who was unavailable for comment Tuesday night. The second source didn't know if Jones had been informed but confirmed that Martin has decided to leave.
Martin averaged 16.9 points and 9.2 rebonds a game this season.

ESPN's Chad Ford projects Martin as the No. 35 overall prospect in the 2015 Draft while Jonathan Givony with DraftExpress.com ranks Martin No. 27 on his latest draft board.

this is not sour grapes. he's just not ready. he needs to develop his shot, his ability to get to the rim and finish in a HALF COURT set, his defense, and aggressiveness. he could be a lottery pick with some hard work. He improved a ton from his frosh season through soph. Now, he's gonna watch the game on someone's bench. It will stunt his development a la Anthony Randolph. There is no practice time in the NBA. You sit the bench for the greater part of 82 games and spend the rest of your free time in an airport or hotel. I wish him the best but he quite possible will never be able to reach his potential.

Not surprised but hoped he would be excited to play with the talent that is coming. I don't personally see how you could leave and let the NC State game be your last game.

Imagine Mickey, Martin and Simmons on the court at the same time....too bad we can't keep anyone around long enough to make something happen.
