CREWS, BERRY EARN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL ALL-AMERICA RECOGNITION
BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU sophomore centerfielder Dylan Crews was named Thursday to the Collegiate Baseball newspaper First-Team All-America squad, and sophomore third baseman Jacob Berry received Second-Team All-America honors.
Crews, the 2022 SEC Co-Player of the Year, is hitting .345 (80-for-232) this season with nine doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 68 RBI and 68 runs scored. His 21 homers represent the most by an LSU player since outfielder Ryan Schimpf hit 22 home runs in 2009.
Crews, a product of Longwood, Fla., was named by USA Baseball earlier this season to the 2022 Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, and he was voted last month to the 2022 SEC Baseball Community Service Team for his dedicated philanthropic work with special needs children.
He leads the SEC this season in runs scored (68), and he is No. 2 in the league in triples (4), No. 2 in RBI (68), No. 3 in total bases (160), No. 3 in home runs (21), No. 4 in hits (80), No. 5 in slugging percentage (.690), No. 8 in walks (39) and No. 9 in on-base percentage (.456).
Crews was named SEC Co-Player of the Week on May 9 after he led LSU to a series victory at Alabama, batting a remarkable .636 (7-for-11) in the series with one double, three homers, seven RBI and five runs.
Berry, a product of Queen Creek, Ariz., is hitting a team-high .381 (72-for-189) on the year, including a league-best .400 in SEC games. The 2022 Second-Team All-SEC performer has collected eight doubles, 15 homers, 47 RBI and 43 runs scored this season.
Berry, named by USA Baseball earlier this season to the 2022 Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, is No. 2 in the SEC in batting average (.381), No. 4 in on-base percentage (.473), No. 8 in slugging percentage (.661) and No. 10 in base hits (72).
