Former LSU star Alex Bregman had a fantastic game for the Houston Astros on Tuesday night vs. the Oakland Athletics, hitting two home runs and a whacky 5-foot walk-off hit. Per MLB.com:
quote:

Here's how it happened: Bregman struck weak contact and thought the ball fell foul. He then realized it rolled into fair territory. He saw A's catcher Jonathan Lucroy field the ball and attempt to tag him. Bregman hopped backward as a reaction and watched Lucroy drop the ball. He hustled down the first-base line and was plunked in the helmet by Lucroy's attempted throw to first. The A's catcher's throw ricocheted into right field and Kyle Tucker scored from second base.

Ballgame.

"That was definitely very weird," Bregman said.

Bunting the two runners over to second and third with no outs and the reigning MVP, Altuve, and league leader with runners in scoring position, Yuli, would have worked, but this saved the manager's a$$. Hope the HR derby doesn't jack up his swing in the second half like others every year.

Also remember that Bregman had that really strange play earlier in the season when he hit a pop up between the pitcher and catcher that the 1st baseman horribly misplayed. I think that was considered a walk-off hit since nobody touched the ball.

Pretty good tweet from Verlander. I was there last night, my 1st game of the season. I had just told my son that Bregman could get his 3rd HR as a walkoff but then said I'd take a walk off single. Two minutes later, that play happens and I told him 'Well, that was a walk-off somethin or other that I've never seen in my entire life.'
