Paul Finebaum Makes Prediction For Auburn, Hugh Freeze This Season

ESPN's Paul Finebaum appeared on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, and revealed his expectations for Auburn and head coach Hugh Freeze for the 2025 season. Per On3:

“I feel good,” Finebaum said. “It’s easy to be an optimist on a gorgeous late summer morning in Alabama when the record is 0-0. I’m gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. I think, for all the criticism that he has received, and much of it is self inflicted — at the core, he’s a good football coach.

“He’s got everything he needs, and I don’t know when a guy with the kind of record that he has, and some of the off the field miscues that he has suffered, couldn’t have any more support from John Cohen and this administration. So, I’m not predicting a playoff. I think 8-4 would be considered a reasonable record. I think that is doable.”

Freeze enters his third season at Auburn with an 11-14 overall record with the Tigers. Auburn went 6-7 in Freeze's first year, and 5-7 last season.

Obviously, this is going to be a national championship season.

Auburn’s already won seven national championships in the 2 seasons he’s been there.

I think an 8-4 season keeps him around another year. Less than that though, barring a win vs Bama or Georgia, he could be fired. I think there’s going to be some expectation that the ship at least has to look somewhat righted.

I don’t know, man. At some point, we’ve got to get off the firing coaches carousel and stick with a guy for a bit. He came into a decimated roster, courtesy of our last two head coaches. To me, this was worse than the death penalty. We all knew how bad the roster was, but on Saturday, we saw the uniform and expected them to play like the teams of the past.

It’s taken him 3 years to rebuild to get to this point. Let’s see what another 3 years of this type of recruiting gets us.
