Maybe look into Wolf Creek. It's relatively small but has some great trails and I think it's pretty budget friendly. Not a whole lot around it but you can stay in Pagosa Springs which is right down the road and probably find something to do to keep you occupied when not skiing.
I used to go as a kid and in college every year and loved it. Haven't been able to go the past couple of years but I have a trip planned for this year in December

I'm still floating the boat and wakeskating in south Louisiana.
Wetsuit by November.
Jan trip planned for Jackson Hole. Last time I was there was in 2012 so I'm excited to see what has changed.

Somebody give me a rough idea of what it would cost for a 2 person ski trip for 5 days at a budget friendly resort, middle of the road resort, and higher end resort.
Price including airfare, lodging, equipment rental, lift ticket, etc.
I've never been skiing before (outside of Gatlinburg which isn't really skiing) and I really want to go. How much should I expect a trip to cost me?

Southwest round trip MSY to DEN ~$300, sometimes cheaper. Bags fly free.
If you want to be really cheap stay in a hotel in Frisco or Silverthorne. This can be had for $100-150 a night. Summit County has a great clean free bus system to get you to all the resorts.
If you shop around on vrbo you can probably find a ski in ski out 1 bedroom in a big resort for $200-250 a night.
Ski rentals $30 a day.
Lift tickets $400-600 for 4-5 days depending on how you do it.
Shuttle bus from airport maybe $100 roundtrip.
Eating on mountain is expensive AF. I usually just eat a big breakfast and bring a few protein bars in my jacket. Plus a flask of bourbon in my jacket.

Anybody ski north NM ? I see cheap southwest flights to ALB. Is it far to ski areas? Lodging economical?

Thanks Cosmo. So if I'm reading your post right, expect to spend around $3000 between two people not including food?

Anyone ever go to Ski Apache NM. Heading their the week before Christmas looking for some Pros/Cons.

If you buy lift tickets during the summer, great deals can be found like at Winter Park or copper mountain you can ski for four days for $160
And there are some really crazy flights from MSY to DEN. I saw during the week of Thanksgiving round-trip nonstop for $112

This is a pretty good breakdown of costs...lots of ways to spend more or less depending on your tastes and destination. Just booked trip 1 to Tahoe for January...hope it keeps raining/snowing out here....

Doing aspen/snowmass for Christmas, maybe crested butte for nye and probably vail/bc sometime in January or February. Hoping to hit the x games in aspen then making our way to vail.

Getting to aspen is such a pain in the arse unless you fly straight in. Long arse drive from DIA.

What's Tahoe like around New years? Good snow, or what?

Yeah. After Christmas all major resorts should be 100% open
