Noise Cancelling headphones, best bang for your buck?

Currently studying for the 7 and I have been using those foam earplugs that are usually just used at gun ranges but they honestly are not blocking out much noise, i can still hear people whispering to each other in the background. Are there any good noise cancelling headphones that are not too expensive? I honestly dont care if they sound good for music, I would just be turning them on to use the noise cancelling part. There is just something about the white noise that the headphones produce that helps me focus. any suggestions? or should i just buy better earplugs?

I don't know if you can beat Bose. I use the QC25s and 20i's. I like them both a lot. Prefer the 20i's now, though. I can cut the yard and barely hear the lawnmower. Ride on a plane and don't hear anything.

I just use whatever earbuds and put memory phone tips on them and loop a white noise

This is the few times I would recommend Bose as they are pretty good about their headphones.

Check out ebay, you can get $200 Bose headphones for under $100, either slightly used or refurbished. You can even get the older versions as well. I just picked up an additional pair to leave at work, very good prices.

Currently harrowing my dad's pair of bose, they are great, but is there anything cheaper?

I have Bose and never though I would $300 for headphones BUT I love them on airplanes. Best money I have spent on a toy in years.

I just picked up a pair of 20i's this week. Really enjoy them so far. I usually like over-the-ear headphones for long international flights. But the Bose earbuds seem to be pretty comfortable.
And they definitely block out the noise.

One flight with a baby behind me made it worth it

I had a pair of bose over ear and I thought they were ok. My $50 pair I bought were just as good.
I go with sound isolation vs. noise cancelling. I find that works better for me. i rock the shures, but also have had the klipsichs and the sonys.
The shures do the best job.
I bought them for airplane rides, and the noise cancelling would drown out background noise but i could still hear kids crying. The sound isolation with music going, I can't hear anything but hte music.
