re: Extending WiFi range about 1000 feet? - SaltyMcKracker
Too far for cat 5, he will have to use fiber. He can try a point to point wireless bridge, but there must be a clear line of sight to each location...

re: Thanks South Carolina for taking the racist campus flag this week from Ole Miss - SaltyMcKracker
I am getting older so maybe I am missing something, but does WiFi still refer to internet access? I mean, other than the overpopulation of the campus what could the other things have to do with the wireless internet sucking? If it were a joke, it seems that overpopulation would be written first an...

re: Looking for a storage device to stream to an iPad without wifi - SaltyMcKracker
VLC on my OG Note 10.1 can handle h. 264 videos up to about 10gb in size. Anything larger than that and it begins to struggle. Crap movies/shows that I rip for kids or wife play fine....

re: Looking for a storage device to stream to an iPad without wifi - SaltyMcKracker
Eh, not for anything I have tried, but I haven't tried any crazy high quality rips. What sorta bitrate are your files? I can pull some similar ones off my Plex box and try them out if you want....

re: Looking for a storage device to stream to an iPad without wifi - SaltyMcKracker
I use [link=(http://www.amazon.com/HooToo-TripMate-Wireless-External-HT-TM04/dp/B00IMYMG12)]this[/link], turn the DLNA service on and plug in a USB drive. It is basically a router with a built in battery. Very handy. I should have looked at your link. I would pay the extra for the elite. Th...

re: Official WINK HUB Home Automation thread - SaltyMcKracker
I just made the jump from Wink to Smartthings, and I think I am going to prefer this platform. You are able to download/write custom programs and it is just more tinker friendly. For example, [link=(http://blog.smartthings.com/stories/home-automation-dashboard/)]this guy[/link] has installed a das...

re: going back to college question - SaltyMcKracker
I went back after almost 20 years away, and I found it to be far easier than the first time I tried. Having a job and bills helped me put the work into school work  There will probably be other older students there, so you won't feel to outta place, but once a classmate remarked that I was o...

re: VR Gaming - Sony Unveils Project Morpheus - SaltyMcKracker
The display is only 1920x1080 OLED
OLED is good, the resolution is not. My Gear VR uses the Note 4 as the screen, and the screen door effect is still very pronounced. I think true consumer units will need 4K screens at a minimum....

re: Best gadgets for small businesses? - SaltyMcKracker
but i dont understand what would be the benefit over a wireless traditional 4 in 1
Speed and lifespan mostly. If you are wanting to test the waters with scanning to pdf, the Epson Workforce 4630 is not too bad of a machine. It does wireless scanning and scan to cloud (dropbox, go...

re: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 also Samsung Pay - SaltyMcKracker
It'll probably be on the side
No expansion slot
But while Samsung certainly improved upon the Galaxy S5’s design in dramatic ways and upgraded the phone’s technology at the same time with the S6, it didn’t come without cost. Hallmarks of Samsung’s phones, such as [b]rem...

re: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 also Samsung Pay - SaltyMcKracker
Since the S6 will be compatible with the Gear VR, I suggest anyone interested in getting both to go with at least the 64GB model. You can eat up a lot of space with the VR apps and video....

re: galaxy s6 looks like iPhone 6, and now "android pay" - SaltyMcKracker
Actually it was a dummy used for case manufacturing. It looks close enough to show the similarities, but I would certainly not expect a troll to acknowledge that. ...
