Why not?

What's your solution? And "just make others pay the loans" is not an option.

What crisis? The average student debt is less than the cost of a Honda Accord and can be paid back over a longer time period.

quote:

$28,950 owed per borrower on average

That isn't shite. How about these losers delay some gratification and pay off their obligations rather than become a leech?

Let the schools guarantee the loans, not the government. Problem solved.

Yes, that is the only answer actually. You borrowed it, you have to pay it back. Period.

stop issuing federally backed loans

if the lenders actually have to face risk when issuing loans, they'd stop issuing as many bad loans and colleges would stop raising tuition for bloated administrative budgets

The bolded entity is not getting NEARLY enough blame and discussion for this.

Why has everything got to be a crisis?

Most of these folks haven't been making payments for over two years...

Declare bankruptcy if you can’t pay your liabilities.

Plus a lot of these people weren’t necessarily spending the loan money in school. They used it to not live poor while in college and are bitching about having to pay it back.

So frick them.

Liberals are great at making things a crisis that aren't and ignoring things that are a crisis.

Will never forget the "We don't have a mortgage reform crisis" speech by leading Democrat before the housing collapse.

Zero percent interest and a hard cap of $50,000.00 and the tuition would plummet

Bankruptcy doesn't erase student loans.

Make university secondary payers on student loans similar to what is done with Medicare allowing recovery from universities or their endowments when students default.

You think your gender studies degree is worth 6 figures? Put your money where your mouth is.

Because let’s be honest. Student loans are really subsidies for universities. If they were interested in paying tuition, they would be Pell Grants.

I don't believe student loans are impacted by bankruptcy.

Look, if the loans given out by the government are so unethical and oppressing, the solution is to stop giving them out. Let the free market reign.

Hold the university partially responsible for repayment. This will help eliminate garbage disciplines and improve the quality of admissions.

Make student loans like SBA loans. Super low interest with a fixed 20 or 30 year term. Treat it like any other loan and remove bankruptcy protection from student loans. If you are all going to complain it should be treated like a loan, then treat it like a loan and let people discharge it in bankruptcy.

Student loans can be discharged through bankruptcy.

quote:

You may have your federal student loan discharged in bankruptcy only if you file a separate action, known as an "adversary proceeding," requesting the bankruptcy court find that repayment would impose undue hardship on you and your dependents.

And guess what? If the courts find paying your loans doesn’t cause hardship. Tough shite, you pay them back.

Revert the loan process to the private sector. Make applicant prove “ability to repay” like they have to do with every other loan. Back the loan with either a co-signor or asset deposit. Show grades from previous year to prove viability.

And make institutions stop requiring students to take classes that have nothing to do with the degree.

Accounting majors dont need to take biology. Its a racket to "give the student a well rounded education" but all it does is tack on more debt and make it take longer for the student to get into the workforce.

If an accounting major wants to take a biology class that is fine but the college should not require it as part of the accounting degree.

You're quite ignorant of how this works. There is no bankruptcy protection from student loans other than by proving a substantial hardship. Student loans haven't been dischargeable in bankruptcy since 2007.

The irony is that Joe Biden's role (as a U.S. Senator) was heavy in the 2005 Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act. This made student loans non-dischargeable in bankruptcy.

• students: Stop getting loans for bullshite degrees.
• Universities: Stop the pissing contest to see who can offer the most amenities and go back to education being the #1 priority.
