Students should have an option of taking the bailout and taking a hit on their credit report as a paid collection which will impact their ability to borrow money or not taking the bailout and fulfilling their. obligations

Garnish their allowances and tax their video games. Revoke their passports if they aren’t making regular payments.

What is the crisis? A bunch of people making irresponsible choices should live with those choices. I'm really fricking tired of this effort by the government to further this consequence free lifestyle because it keeps them in power.

Don't want to close your legs? Kill the baby. Don't want to pay back money you borrowed? frick it, don't. Don't want to stop committing crimes? Keep at it.

There are a lot of people in this country that actually take steps to live responsible lives and mind the consequences of their actions. It's really fricking frustrating to see everyone bending over backwards to appease people who refuse to get out of their own way and better themselves.

Make an undergraduate education free, and make it a part of the federal government's budget, but it can only be offered to people who have passed a rigorous exam to qualify. This already happens in France (they have to pass an exam called le bac) and many other industrialized countries.

To fix it for the future.

Government removes itself from the student loan business. If kids want to take out loans for college they have to go to a bank and get approved. This huge problem stems from almost no one being denied student loans.

To currently fix the problem with people who have 100k+ student debt and make less than 75k a year.

Lower the interest rate substantially. Look into creating a program borrowers can apply for that look at your situation in a case by case situation. If you have a clean record, haven't missed payments, and not receiving government benefits you could be given a reduction in your amount owed on federal loans.

Premise fail.

The primary change I would make would be to limit funds based on major and that would be determined by what the market needs (updated every few years).

Pre-med or Nursing? You betcha.

Womens Studies? Not a fricking dime.

Electrical Engineering? Sure.

Art Appreciation? You'd better be appreciating your parents for paying for that useless tripe.

The other change I would make would be to completely remove the institution of higher learning from knowing where the money came from. Let those frickers think all of their students are bailing hay to pay for college because knowing the fedgov is basically a money spigot locked in the "ON" position has let them feel extremely comfortable in raising prices then blowing that money on extravagances and middle management expansions.

Make all federal student loan debt bankruptable for those that have it should they so choose that route if they truly cant pay it.

The government stops backing loans and gets out of the business to fix the real problem which is unlimited money printing for colleges

They have many programs to assist students with this already.

Find a program that suits your circumstance and get it done.

Promote Trump's policies and generate a booming economy.

The dems think they can buy the election, but what they fail to see is that all the millions and millions of people that worked hard and paid off their loans will be totally pissed and may vote against them.

Stop government funding of student tuition. If the market were allowed to set the rates of tuition, schools would be forced to make it more affordable and thus fewer kids would go helplessly into debt.
Instead, we tell everyone that they are a victim unless they go to college, then we prop up the universities with government funds, subsidize kids who shouldn’t be going to school with grants and such, then leave the rest to pay artificially high tuition to go to achool

Allow people to go through bankruptcy.

Stop insuring all loans on the tax payers back.

Otherwise there is no limit to how high tuition will go.

If the institution knows their consumers will be able to attain a loan, they have no reason to lower tuition.

Why is that not an option? It's the only legitimate option. Making the American taxpayer foot the bill for loans that someone else signed up for shouldn't be an option. In fact, it's corrupt, and violates our rights to liberty.

Going forward, students should only be able to get loans for legitimate, core courses. If a student wants to spend 100K on gender studies of insects in the Congo, they can pony up the money, or soak their parents.

Professors should be paid by averaging the salary of graduates who get jobs in their field of study. $1000 course textbooks, and paying a second tuition simply to park a car should be illegal. Administrators should be paid no more than an average of their professors pay, as calculated above.

ETA: My youngest son has been working his arse off, and living with his brother so he could save money to pay off his student loans. Exactly 3 weeks ago, he paid off the entire amount, $11,000 to close out the loan. Figures, right?
