I'm not rooting for them. I'm just telling you that they are not your friends. The reason why they are putting their plant in Alabama is BECAUSE it's downtrodden. In fact they want Alabama to stay downtrodden for the cheap, docile labor. If Alabama becomes non-downtroddent they will leave ASAP.
The reason they are leaving is that the governor of the state said their type isn't welcome and has made being profitable a punishable offense. Same thing happening in California.
Try to play it down or spin it all you want, but blue states are losing business and tax bases because of their policies. Go look at the tech companies leaving Cali for other states in the SW.

It's not bad short-term, but there is no future long-term in building things that can and will be made in places of cheaper labor. You will soon see Mercedes, Hyundai, Remington, and Honda make their vehicles in a place with greater returns on capital. Enjoy it while you can but the real money and they money that stays will be in Germany, Korea, New York, and Japan.
True, but companies staying in areas of oppressive taxation and inflated wages makes them less profitable and less competitive in a global market. Not to mention the fact that Remington alienated much of it's loyal base of customers, me included, by staying in NY and not making a stand against their anti-gun, anti-right laws, attitudes and voting records.
ETA-sorry about the dumbass comment. I've been on the Rant and OT.

It depends on what Remington wants to do with the facility. I would hope they'd manufacture guns, and just not ammo. That does in fact take a great amount of skill if you're going to put out a superior product.
I have to agree with you in a way about Alabama being downtrodden. I wish our high school shop had given instruction on machining the way they do in the Midwest. Sure errbody in our shop could weld, cut, or turn something on a wood lathe, but we never had the opportunity to machine any metal. I would have been much more fired-up about math back then.
Here's high school shop teacher from up around Indiana. Why couldn't we get good shite like this in high school?

From the link :

The company is making the move as an expansion of capacity, production and research,” a source told Yellowhammer on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly
I'd hardly consider research in firearms a job that requires "little skill."
These are jobs that are filled with engineers, designers, etc.

I'm with you Tiguar....I like how you said that.
Yup. That's all we are. Forget the number of PhDs we have per capita here in Huntsville. Forget the number of post grad degrees we have.
Just a bunch of backwoods no good country folk.

New Yorkers should be thrilled with this. It will give many of them the opportunity to spend more quality time at home with their families.

You can't stereotype all New Yahkers that way. I've met Yankees in the military where we'd get into pissing contests over who was more conservative.
Then again, they don't live in the NE anymore.

From what I've read, this facility isn't going to be online until 2015. I haven't bought a gun in almost 2 years. I don't have a Remington product in any of my gun cases. If they start manufacturing guns, be it a rifle or shotgun, whatever comes out of Huntsville will be my next purchase.
Posted on 2/16/14 at 4:49 pm to son of arlo
It very we'll could be that they are producing a sniper rifle for the military. Remington was awarded a contract not that long ago, I believe it was quoted at 16k a piece. Lotta spin and misinformation up here today and last night as people started finding out. The gov and his handlers are saying no job losses at at all but everyone knows Remington was going online to manufacture these new rifles and they were doing all they could to land the new facilities and jobs. No matter what is produced in Huntsville they landed a solid deal with Remington in a great part of the country.

IOW, jobs saved, but not created. Remington isn't firing employees. If I was the owner, I'd be concerned about the worker's mortgages and payments for their kid's college expenses.
If any of the Remington folks want to move to Huntsville, they're gonna have to stow all their racist sentiments. What would fly with a chuckle in Upstate NY will get you a racial discrimination lawsuit in the South.

A tiny glimmer of mental activity appears in a NY union leader's cranium. "It ain't good."
All newspaper articles need a comical punchline at the end like this for those who understand irony.

Remington and other firearms makers can still manufacture assault weapons in New York, but they can't sell them inside the state.

I doubt seriously if there is a city in the United States or a region of the country who has benefited more from federal tax dollars than Huntsville, Alabama or North Alabama. Prior to the TVA initiative the entire are was nothing more than a flood plain of the Tennessee River.
Huntsville's economy is based on federal tax dollars. If it were not for the infrastructure in place in the area, thanks to the payers of federal taxes in places like New York, north Alabama would never have been in the mix for a plant of any sort. The people of Huntsville and North Alabama owe their soul to FDR and the New Deal.....and they dam well know it and DESPISE the democrats for it....just like the spoiled children they are....

bow down to your benevolent government. Amirite?

I hope this happens a lot more. A LOT more.
It will...it has been happening for years...as the infrastructure in the south becomes more and more viable due to mass infusions of federal cash from places like New York and Massachussets more and more companies will move to the south. It is a good thing for the federal government to build dams and power plants and electrical grids and water treatment plants and highways and all sorts of other shite that allows the people of backwater flood plains to brag about how their willingness to work for low wages and be treated any way their boss sees fit makes them prettier to manufacturers than their cousins up north who demand a living wage and being treated like a human being.
Why are ya'll so excited about a welfare center like Huntsville attracting a private employer?
