But the figures they quote about Red states always includes Federally mandated spending, Farm subsidies, Military bases, National parks, Federal land, etc. It also never includes State property tax (where larger rural states generate most of their income)

Should those things not be included? They're included for blue states too, aren't they? The Senators and Congressman from those states fight like hell for farm subsidies and military spending, it's not being forced on them.

the 2 biggest factors that tip the balance that i see are:

1. welfare recipients
2. federal land

one affects the south/southeast disproportionately

one affects the non-coastal west disproportionately

i'll gladly trade our welfare-medicaid recipients to the states who feel like they're not getting enough

Yes, unnecessary ones that are fought for tooth and nail anytime the specter of their cut comes up. I wonder what "rural America" would do if the post office closed most of those facilities and delivered mail only once per week.

Of course not, but at least we get something out of both.

if successful for liberals, would eventually cause cities to turn more red and their control would then be gone.

Which gives me an idea, what if 250,000 red state republicans and 50,000 blue state republicans from the other 49 states moved to California in 2015 just in time to delcare state residency for the 2016 election. Turned Cali into a red state for the election and then hauled arse back home after the election was over. Talk about a get out the vote campaign. The meltdown alone would be worth it.

Over time you'll see something like that, though not a flock to California.

Conservatives and business owners are steady fleeing the heavy blue states for red states. This will spurt population and economic growth in the red states.

It could cause more rural states to gain more electoral votes

How often does the electoral vote get revised? I am guessing every time the census is done.

Good. New York needs to feel the pain their anti-freedom and gun grabbing legislation brings on its citizens.

Tough luck on those in NY. I hope they make out ok. Should have voted with their brains rather than emotion.

This is how the free market works. This is how America works..we are celebrating the fact that the traditional way of showing opposition to certain laws is being used. Get up and move away and take your money with you. frick New York

What did I say that was false?

It's your right to move elsewhere if the local political climate isn't friendly to you. People have done it in this country for years. They aren't obligated by any means to stay in New York.

If they can increase their profit in the South while making a political point at the same time, then it's a good move for them.

It's more about your way of thinking. Totally unable to accept that not everyone shares your political beliefs and lashing out people and places that disagree with you. It's pathetic.

well being anti-business and/or against that specific industry generally should lead to economic consequences

being pro-freedom and celebrating that positive outcomes of that is not pathetic

you're quite guilty of this, also:

maybe not "lashing out" but the rest applies

which is fine to do, but don't call other people out for it and/or say it's pathetic, b/c then you approach hypocrisy

just because a faction of southerners think that New York is "anti-buisness" doesn't make it so.

No, I'm really not. I'm a straight white male who grew up in south louisiana. 90% of my friends growing up and today are conservative. If I didn't understand and respect an opposing view I would never have made it.

you'd be surprised at how little they give a shite about the south, one way or another. Nothing like the venom that goes the other way.
