Remington first began considering new locations after the New York legislature passed the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act in response to the tragic shootings in Newtown, Conn. In addition to banning magazines that contain more than seven rounds and requiring instant background checks on ammo purchases, the NY SAFE Act broadened the definition of so-called “assault weapons” to include a wide range of guns, including the Bushmaster, which was being manufactured at Remington’s New York plant.

More companies should make statements like this. I wonder when Colt will move?

If true, I will once again buy Remington products. I imagine they are feeling the pinch of thousands upon thousands of us that have boycotted them as they have failed to make a stand against New York's gun laws. Move all that shite to the red states.

Same here. A nice .308 bolt action will be in the plans.

Maybe some more of these companies will jump ship and land in Louisiana.

I love seeing AL become more industrial/tech. Even better at NYs expense. I think some companies are realizing they can lessen their tax burdens and or labor burdens (unions) while still staying in the US by moving South and it is glorious.

If only Boeing and Washington State weren't such cry babies, we be building airplanes too here.

Two sources with knowledge of the deal told The Military Times that Remington will purchase a 500,000-square-foot building to be used for manufacturing, new product development and training for the company's commercial, military and law enforcement businesses. Production is not expected to begin before 2015, the website said.

The site of the potential Remington plant is unclear, but sources said it would be in far west Huntsville near the Huntsville International Airport.

How are you guys celebrating this, this is going to kill a lot of people's jobs in New York, they have a choice either move to Alabama or lose their job, are you serious, this is putting hundreds of New Yorkers out of a job and you all are celebrating

How many people do you know would move from NY to Alabama, not many

This will ruin people's families and tear apart their kids social lives if they move. Think of the kids extra curricular activities they are a part of and the friends they have in NY.

I liked the comment about the beginning of two Americas. I agree with that.

To be fair, Bama has been off in its "own America" for decades now. Nothing to be too proud of.

It is sad that NYC and the liberal elite of NYS have basically decimated a small town hours outside of NYC. Ilion is a nice small town just outside the Adirondacks. Good people good community no way they come back from this. Remington was the only thing there after most of the mills have shuttered, thanks to more liberal elites that have no idea about these small towns. Again sad to see but understandable, elections have consequences.....

I equate it to moving jobs from a slave state to a free state.

The progressive and liberal plan is to get everyone to live in cities. I saw an article about a German city trying to become completely car-free in 15 years, for example.

Liberals hate rural people and towns because they are self sufficient and don't need government, they can take care of themselves and mind their own business. Because of this the liberals can't control them. It's easier to control people and get people dependent on government in large cities. It's why they hate cars as well and want everyone on public transportation. It's not about the environment, its about control

Wow, I read a feature piece in WSJ last year that Remington was the oldest company in the US. Always in NY. They asked management how they could handle taxes and labor unions. Apparently, they can't.

Big I kinda agree with Hunter. I mean the entire Industrial complex of northern states was done only with favorable legislation, government intervention and bias before and after the Civil War through the 2nd World War. Now they don't want to play on a somewhat fairer playing field.
