How are you guys celebrating this, this is going to kill a lot of people's jobs in New York, they have a choice either move to Alabama or lose their job, are you serious, this is putting hundreds of New Yorkers out of a job and you all are celebrating

How many people do you know would move from NY to Alabama, not many

This will ruin people's families and tear apart their kids social lives if they move. Think of the kids extra curricular activities they are a part of and the friends they have in NY.

1) This is what happens when liberalism takes over a state. Yes it's bad that new yorkers will lose their jobs. Blame the state of New York, not Remington.
2) While this may cause job loss in NY, it creates jobs in Alabama. This scenario is a result of good management practices, and a prime example of what happens when liberals run the show. Why would I, as a business owner, continue to pay outrageous taxes to a state that does not want my business, and actively discriminates against my customers?

So as sad as it may be for NY'ers that work for Remington, they blame only lies with the New Yorkers themselves, and the liberal democrats they vote for time, and time again.

Whelp, the particular location of the factory is about 5 hours from any major thriving metropolitan area, so it's about the same as being in Alabama if not worse.

I feel for the kids, but that's the world we live in. The company sees an unwelcome environment in NY State and is seeking a more welcoming environment.

I disagree - that area is very conservative, however they got trumped by the more liberal counties in NY State. I see nothing wrong with job losses as a result of political idiocy. Why should they continue to stay in a state that demonizes their industry? F'em and go somewhere they are appreciated.

but do not try to take away what FDR and the New Deal did for the south

I haven't taken that away. I'm just going back further to what caused the poverty and the need of the TVA in the 40's. The raping the Gov't allowed to happen post Civil War, benefitted those up north, much more than the South has benefitted since the 40's. If you want to have a legit discussion, you'll factor that into things as well.

Ya'll can preach this bullshite all you want but people with long roots deeply planted in the south, and not those among us mere 2 generations removed from unionized industrial jobs in the rust belt who have migrated because their employers were interested in exploiting a non-union work force to ignorant to lay aside the destructiveness of racism in favor of their own self interest know all too well what TVA and the investment of federal tax dollars means to the region

Most historians consider Reconstruction a failure because the South became poverty-stricken and exploited.. the "investment" you cite was helpful but deserved after a destructive federal policy plundered the entire region. I think you give too much credit to the government, and not enough to the Southern work ethic. Huntsville is far more than government investment, it is home to hundreds, if not more, major private corporations, who pay good wages

The south has always been poverty stricken and exploited...hell prior to the war a majority of the population was being held in forced servitude.

Reconstruction was caused by the south, the south was not a victim of reconstruction. The south attacked federal troops and started a war. They then proceeded to lose that war (it was a lost cause to begin with, one of many that southerners have fought dearly for). Saying that reconstruction was "done" to the south is like saying McDonalds makes people fat.

Huntsville is a great city...one of my favorite regions of the south and an area I have seriously considered retiring to. That being said the reason this is so is because of tax money. All of those private corporations would not be located in Huntsville were it not for the federal presence in the city and the region....

Huntsville and North Alabama is the perfect example of socialism working. It is a harmonious blend of federal money and private intitiative....it is the worse case scenario for small government types who are convinced that federal money and taxes are evil. What is truly amazing is the number of people who benefit from this federal largesse who live in the area who are, in fact, small government types. Of course being obtuse is not a minor character type among the right....
