Dorginac's
WF
Rare Cuts
Costco (Sell thick cut prime rib eyes and strips)

Not a big fan of Robert's or Fresh Market. Rouse's is okay, but prefer Dorignac's.

I've always been satisfied with Zuppardo's meat department.

I believe Frank Brigtsen has put up photos of meat from Emmett's on his Facebook page. I haven't been there.

Emmett's is a cool little shop. I haven't tried their beef, though. I usually get a boneless, stuffed chicken (about $12) and some other prepared items.

That's right. Emmett's is really great, and I know Frank is always pubbing them.

Emmett's has cut me some shitty steaks on two occasions.

But have also had some good ones there.

I like Whole Food's steaks better, and have never had a problem at Rare Cuts

They each have different number of parking spots.

Selection and employees make a huge difference from store to store.

I honestly dont know, but i can't come up with a solid reason why they would.

I shop at 2 of the non-renovated Rouses and the meat at each is fine. I can get cuts that rival just about anywhere in the city

ETA: obviously i agree that not all Rouses are the same. I went to the on Carrolton this weekend and it puts mine to shame. However i cant see them having better meat because it's a newer store.

I'm sure they do, but if they don't have anyone working in the meat dept I'll never be able to get one of those steaks out the case.

No, sir. I'm saying that some Rouse's sell premium cuts and aged cuts more so than others. The Rouse's by me, is not much removed from the Save a Center it used to be. But then when you go to the Rouse's on Vet's or the one on Airline or the one Downtown it's like night and day.

I am sure they use the same suppliers. But I guess our market is "cheaper" and we tend to have very little really nice cuts available. They still have god choices, I'm just saying, I can go to the Rouse's near Causeway on Vets and get a Steak I would pay $60 for in a restaurant, I don't have that option at my West Esplanade Rouse's.

Damn, even Laffayette has the aged meat steaks. I feel jipped.

Still have to weight it and tag it. Rouse's does really have some crappy employees in some of their stores. I've found the service the best in the downtown store. Service at the two westbank stores and the Tchoup store (service is spotty there also) that I go to also are not that great

It can be a management thing also. Rotation is the key when it comes to retails and having fresh meat/seafood in the case. Whole Foods is probably best at this in the area.

Will they hack off a couple of steaks from those aged racks or do I have to buy the whole thing?

I have always seen them priced for the whole rack. Didn't know you could get just one cut off.
