While I agree that Central's is the best, I also like Napoleon House's version.

So...... If I didn't like the muff at Central Grocery, I won't like any if them?

IMO probably. If you didn't like the strong taste of the olive salad then they might not be your thing.

Central Muffs are better after sitting in the car for 3-4 hours.

Anthony's toasted muff Saturday was pretty freaking slammin.

but I also like DiMartini's quite a lot

Think you mean DiMartino's. The bread there is pretty damned good. I get the roast beef with provolone pot on a muff bun.

I lost a lot of my love for Central Grocery when I saw a kid spit in a barrel of bulk red beans. Must have been at least 200 pounds of red beans.

There was this place on Chimes near LSU in the 70's called The Library. They served a Roast Beef Muffaletta with Swiss Cheese that they called either the "Library Special" or "Joe's Special".

My middle-aged brain can't remember. but the combination of roast beef and gravy with the salty/acidic olive salad was terrific. Kind of like a Chicago Italian Beef Sandwich, I guess.

Napoleon House is pretty good. I feel like theirs has a few variations on the original.

Central grocery at room temperature with an ice cold barqs would be my choice for my last meal on earth.

Brocatos cannoli to finish.

That's how strongly I feel about CG...dashboard warmup for about 30 minutes give or take is perfectly acceptable.

Had a couple bites of a central grocery the other day for the first time in years. It was not good. I hope it was an off day, but heard things have gone downhill there.

Central Grocery has great ingredients, but I like my muffaletta hot, with melty cheese. R&O's is great. I'm looking forward to trying Anthony's once they open up their new location on Government Street.

OT:
We are going back in December...... Yes I love New Orleans central is a must....we are going to butcher this next time made a mistake and ate Cochon...... But apparently butchers where it's at.... Any other suggestions? So anyway as we walk the French quarter I imagine how I would LOVE to live in some of those lofts..... I even googled it once.... There was a loft( forgive thr street) that was going for a million.... It was completely gutted.... I was thinking if I ever won the lottery.... I'd buy it and restore it top notch
