I have cox now and paying $74/mo just for internet. Thinking about switching to U-Verse. Any thoughts? Is U-Verse really that much better that Cox, service-wise?

My parents have Cox and it's awesome. My apartment has UVerse and it sucks.

I gave up on Cox years ago when the guys they sent out to fix a broken cable looked like they had been hired that morning at the Home Depot parking lot.

I have UVerse and really like it. The internet won't be as fast as Cox but I've never had a single outage and it's still fast enough for Netflix.

The TV stuff from UVerse is great especially if you get the movie channels. UVerse pricing really beats Cox in this department.

I pay that same 74$ gladly. It's the best internet you can get and it's not even close.

Uverse is basically DSL. Plus you then have to deal with a totally incompetent company in ATT.

When I switched from U-Verse to Cox, the 50mbps package was $67. It shortly went up to $74, so I threatened to cancel. Now I pay $59 for the $74 package. If you have u-verse available, you have the power to negotiate.

I personally wouldn't switch to u-verse. What's their 24mbps price? Like $60+ a month? So you'd save a few dollars for half the speed and double the latency (assuming you couldn't get your bill lowered, which you can). Not sure what their 45mbps price is, because it's not available where I am. Too far from the VRAD.

I wrote a long post recently about the pros and cons of cox and u-verse: LINK

I have Uverse and haven't experienced any problems. I'm paying for 24 down and average around 20 over Wifi. I don't watch much tv but went ahead and got the U300 for the SEC Network. Where I live is a finalist for Google fiber (and I heard the we unofficially got it), so I'm expecting a significant upgrade in service in the near future.

Product wise, cox is better, but not enough better than uverse for the difference in price.

Att TV interface is awesome, but their crap internet makes it not worth it. They will also randomly increase your bill until you get pissed and call them. I had enough and went back to cox. ATT wouldn't even stream Netflix in HD.

Uverse is great, but ATT are asshats, who cannot help but step on their own deacks.

In next year n half, ATT is going full fiber in many cities. Full gig fiber>>>> Cable companies.

They should bury them, but as i said, ATT cannot help but piss off their loyal customers, just for shits and grins.

If your city isnt one getting full fiber, and Cox has great service, stick to Cox.

I've had both... Cox's cust service is way worse than ATTs. 3 months in a row they tried to charge me late fees and or cancel my service when I had the auto bill pay set up since the beginning of my contract which was started damn near 9mths prior. They then tried to pull one over on my wife and i proceeded to almost tell the guy to get fricked when I got on the phone. Cancelled right then and there.
I have no problems with my ATT internet, its fast enough for what I want it for and I pay less with way better TV. I have never had any outages or problems with either the net or tv. That all being said.... Cox was okay, but the cust service got me.

Totally opposite for me..
ATT is exponentially worse with customer service. The tech department will troubleshoot with you for hours only to find your account is suspended. (I run an IT firm and deal with both for my clients). The left hand has no clue what the right hand is doing. Plus, Uverse is not geared for businesses. You can have multiple static IPs, but only use one at a time.

Cox internet is better. UVerse TV is way way better. The difference in internet is not as big as the difference in TV for me. I have nothing but good things to say about ATT customer service so far. Cox on the other hand reached a point where they didn't give a frick.

The difference between Cox and ATT customer service, as far as that initial phone call, is that you're more likely to get an American on the phone with Cox. Both techs will have the same level of knowledge, but the Cox one will be most likely able to help you because remote modem resetting and signal checking are slightly more likely to solve intermittent service issues with cable broadband-- whereas if there's a U-Verse outage, it's a straight-up outage on ADSL/VDSL, and an ATT tech won't be able to do much except tell you there's a known outage or report it. So, we just have an issue of perception: An American who can walk you through basic steps and maybe resolve issues on your end vs. a possible foreigner who can walk you through basic steps, but by the nature of the technology, it's probably not even an issue on your end.

Beyond that, they can all deploy service techs to your house and both are trained to read scripts. Hell, the one time I had to call ATT, during the one 2-hour outage I had years ago, they obviously couldn't fix the outage over the phone, but I got a $10 credit to my bill, and the technician called me back a couple hours later to verify that the outage was over and make sure I had internet again. U-Verse internet was reliable for sure. If it had been faster, I would've kept it.

Uverse is better TV but Cox is better internet

Uverse will be better internet in about a year when they roll out the super fiber 150 mb and the gig service

DIRECTV is better than both on TV

I've said it before, my U-Verse experience has been awful. The equipment is always breaking and having to be replaced and the connection always goes out. We've even re-wired the yard and the connection still goes out.

What about keeping the COX internet and switching to the U-Verse cable? I have COX right now (cable, internet, land line) and paying anywhere from $180-$200/month
