re: French speech in Louisiana - Guess
I'm older than you. I grew up across from High Ridge Marina, next to the Olivier's. My younger sister is closer to your age. Burghart is the uncle that I mentioned running for parish prez, and Hillary was my grandfather that may have taught you social studies or French in highschool....
Peytonknows
If you're from there, then probably so. My uncle will be running for Parish president this year and I'm also in his wedding next month if that gives you a clue....

re: Jonesville La chief police fired after "racist" comment Facebook - Guess
I don't know the guy or the whole story, but that sounds fricked up. However, we all know the world that we live in, so he knows that almost anything posted online can be interpreted as or twisted into saying something that could get you fired....
no... Plaquemines had very very few french folk....
You're mistaken. I grew up there and most of the older people around me growing up were fluent in French. I had a great uncle who could barely speak English. ...

Looking for older tracks - Guess
I was listening to Bone earlier, and it made me remember GraveYard Soldiers, a group that never blew up, but they had one hot album locally. Anybody know where I can find some of their stuff online? I don't post on this board, but this seems like something that can be a sticky topic including all...

re: What parish has the most all-around good people? - Guess
A lot of us originally from Plaquemines probably know of each other or at least our families. I can't picture Placebeaux, but I probably have seen him around quite a bit as a kid. The Parish is the smallest in the NO metro and the demographics of this board says we probably played baseball against e...

re: Officer Shot in Kansas City, KS: Updated Officer has died. - Guess
Since then, I've overheard blacks talking like that amongst themselves. Like: "You know his first girlfriend was dark skinned, but ever since then you know he likes those light skinned girls". I honestly have no idea how prevalent this is, but I was totally unaware it was even discussed that ...

re: French speech in Louisiana - Guess
My grandparents spoke french as a first language. My parents spoke English first, and barely could hold a conversation in french. Sad to say, by my generation I only know a few phrases and can understand it a little but I can't even keep pace in a normal conversation. I think we are missing out on p...

French speech in Louisiana - Guess
It's definitely not as prevalent as in the past and Spanish is probably the most spoken second language here now. Obviously a spinoff from the Spanish thread, but what area in the state speaks french the best? My grandfather spoke French as a first language, traveled to Europe extensively, a...
Same boat. Black is what shows up for me, but I have native American, German, and Irish blood lurking as well. Wifey's pretty much straight up Irish, so our kids will be a potpourri if/when we have any We're all mixed on some level, tbh. Time to quit getting hung up on playing matchy-ma...

re: Officer Shot in Kansas City, KS: Updated Officer has died. - Guess
I hate the term black even. I've never see a black person.
Really, I have a very light complexion. One that we blacks call "yella" or "red," but that's besides the point. I identify as black because that is what the world has labeled me as concerning race. I'm not white. Also as m...

re: What's the best cell phone carrier for a single user? - Guess
The major MVNOs use the same networks as the big 4 so service is almost identical to the parent company in most cases. The main differences in service is that the parent company may have more roaming agreements than available on an MVNO, and MVNOs are prioritized lower than the parent company's cust...
