going out to a very nice dinner tomorrow night with my boss and VP who are in town.

its at one of the top steakhouses in the country and ive only ever been once before. the one time i went i had the filet mignon and it was the best steak ive ever eaten.

heres my dilema, their menu is HUGE and since its only my second time, do i order something else on the menu and try something new or another cut risking that i might not like it as much or do i go back to the well and get the greatest steak ive ever eaten?

what to do???

I always go for the bone in ribeyes at premier steakhouses. I cook a damn fine filet on my grill, but never treat myself to a bone-in ribeye.

I always try new things. But that's me. You never know there might be something better you like and never try it

Well one thing you don't do is let your boss and the vice president see this post. They might wonder about your decision making skills.

I don't see a dilemma. Pick an appetizer, pick a salad or soup and pick an entree. If its a top steakhouse eat meat.

I'll tell you what to do. Don't order the linguini and clam sauce.

What steakhouse?

Not trying to be a jerk, but from my experience, these two things don't add up.

If it truly is a top steakhouse serving prime beef, I typically go with a ribeye because the marbling is pretty much the whole point of buying prime beef.

Meat, definitely. If it really is "one of the top steakhouses in the country", then any meat you order should be top-notch. I would go for the bone in ribeye myself, or maybe a fantastic cut of lamb if they offer it, but keep it simple. Don't over-think it. And a filet looks like someone who doesn't know what they're doing and is trying to look fancy, or just a woman. Order something with fat in it, that's where the prime beef and dry aged beef shines, not on a filet.

I'd try something else. I don't really get the love for filet. It's not as tasty as a bunch of other cuts. I think people like it because it's tender, but I'd rather go for flavor, like a ribeye, strip or sirloin even.

Filet is like tilapia. It's just a vehicle for a sauce. I enjoy one once in awhile just for the sheer leanness of it but I'm a NY Strip, medium rare guy all the day long. Much more flavor.

Agreed. Haven't had a bone in ribeye though. Want to try one for sure.

If it is a top steakhouse, whatever you get will be good.

Having said that, get what you want and don't worry that the next steak in the cooler might have been better than the one you selected.

You can't go wrong with:

Fillet
Strip
Ribeye
T-Bone

Just don't order it chicken fried.

I would try something different. That being said, I've enjoyed a bone in filet several times. I like filets, but I cook them at home quite often, so other than bone in, I don't order them out much. Love a bone in any steak just about. I like a good veal chop and will order that over other steaks most of the time.

No crabmeat with my steak. I don't want seafood mixed with my meat, you know. Lobster tail on the side isn't bad, but I can't eat that much. I always have a go box.

Are you seriously asking a stupid question like this? To much of a girl to make up your own mind...have to ask others what you should do. Very funny.

Step 1: overthink the situation

Oh nice, you've already got that one covered.

Next up I guess would be to decide on one of the many better tasting cuts of steak.

I'd be interested in knowing what restaurant so that I could look at the menu before I gave an answer.
