Taking my dad out for his 70th bday in about a month. My sister is pushing Clancys. I have never been, but she has and swears by it.

Revisiting this topic as my visit is fast approaching.

Anyone have opinions on Clancys drink options non-wine. Not a wine drinker myself but enjoy a good cocktail. Do they have capable bartenders if I wanted a good old fashioned or a Manhattan

If your dad was a regular it's perfect.

It's a great old fashioned neighborhood restaurant.

This is clearly the conventional wisdom.

However, I prefer the look of upstairs to that dirty rec-room carpet weird lighting of downstairs.

It must be broken.

OP, it really is a very consistent and very good place.

Apps:

Sweetbreads(already mentioned)
Shrimp remoulade.. best in the city IMO
Crab salad
Oysters and brie... ask for light brie

Entrees:

Softshell crab
Smoked pork loin
Veal Chop
Veal Annunciation
Scallops

Desserts:

Peppermint ice cream with chocolate sauce
Lemon icebox pie
The special ice cream.. if they have banana, get it

Great selection of scotches and bourbons

Fantastic wine list, that is actually very reasonably priced.

ENJOY!!!

That dish is better than good sex and known about by so few. For the uninitiated they will make you weak in the knees if covered with a good demi-glace based sauce your taste buds do a dance in homage to them.

Love their sweetbreads. They're my second favorite in town behind Bayona.

I think their whiskey/scotch selection and Garth's knowledge is what really stands out at Clancys. Not so much for their mixed drinks.

IMO. No offense to Glassman.

None taken. I drink wine when I am there, but he knows how to mix a cocktail.
