Brewing day went as well as could be expected today. Finished at a good og and enough volume. A few e hiccups but overall a good brew day. Have to figure out Temps a little bit more. All my thermometers were saying different Temps during the mash. good times though.

How do ya'll chill your wort? Wort Chiller, ice bath, glycol trunk?

I currently have a wort chiller hooked to the water hose but with as hot as it was yesterday it took a good bit longer to cool down. I am thinking of getting a second wort chiller and putting it in an ice bath.

BTW the IPA we brewed yesterday was the smoothest brew day I've had to date.

If you wanna chill in the deep south, you need a pre-chiller. Growundwater temp doesn't cut it. I took the path of least resistance and just stopped chilling. Gave away my immersion chiller and haven't missed it since.

I use an immersion chiller but I hook it to a pump and circulated water from a tub with frozen gallon jugs in it. Chills it much faster and saves water.

Yup. I drain it into an air-tight container and let it chill overnight. Sometimes a couple nights if I'm putting it off like this weekend.

You would do that for a pale ale?

I do it for all my beers.

Yes. I use a food-safe HDPE cube that's rated for high temperatures. LINK

I'm not a fan of plastic. Too many hormone and hormone interrupters are released, especially when its heated and/or exposed to UV. I just upgraded to a SS immersion coil so I put my old copper coil in an ice bath to pre cool the water before it enters my SS coil in the Wort. Works pretty good.

A good friend of mine was over yesterday while we were brewing. He knows nothing about homebrewing but was asking about the use of liquid nitrogen to chill wort. Would that work?

I do the same. I just cut the gas, move the pot into the shade and let it be until it stops steaming. I then put the lid on the pot until I'm ready to pitch my yeast.

It has been a wild couple of weeks but I'm finally getting back in the game tomorrow

Going to brew a simple Saison with Brett and grapefruit - 80% 2-row, 15% wheat, 5% oats with Nelson Sauvin hops. I also need to transfer my red farmhouse ale to dry hop.

Hope all is well. Welcome back to the game.

And we've achieved sticky status!
