Question about LSU Shreveport grad school(OT)

I graduate this fall and was wondering if anyone could give me more info on the occupational therapy program at LSU shreveport. I was also considering LsU nola but they start in January.

How competitive is it? I will only have about a 3.0 at graduation but a 3.8 in last 70 hrs and tons of extracurricular activities and shadowing hours. I know with such a meh gpa my choices are limited. Any advice? Thanks

Do you need to take the GRE to get in, or is there a different entrance exam?

Why aren't you considering UMMC to save on tuition?

It sounds like you finished strong. If you kill the GRE, I don't see why you wouldn't get in.

i am.. i just figured i had a better shot herw than at ummc because the minimum gpa required is 3.0, and just being on that line I'd assume i wouldn't get in

They take around 30 students each year. Usually 90% of the students are Louisiana residents. The class starting this coming summer is close to 80% instate. Lack of qualified instate applicants was the reason. It's getting more competitive every year.

This is Mississippi. The competition is going to be less here than in other states. Use that to your advantage.

You also might look into Nova Southeastern.

I got in with only a slightly higher gpa, but this was before it became a masters program.

I realize that. I'm just not sure that it translates to much more lenient standards. I would love to get into UMMC or South though, considering i wouldn't have to pay OOS tuition

Yep. I'm not sure how it is with OT, but because they finish quicker in PT than LSU the 6 months of income gained almost offsets the cost differential.

Yep. I'd go for it, though, if it were my only option.

My sister is in OT school there, but she had a 4.0 in biology with almost a perfect GRE so that doesn't help you much. I do think you'll be fine with a strong GRE

I'm applying for the program in NOLA. I got wait listed for the Texas Tech program. From what I read your prerequisite GPA is a big factor in getting in.Because of a poor start when I first went to school I have a GPA similar to yours. My prereq GPA, as they compute it at NOLA is 3.5.
