Funny that the most divisive Mayor-President in EBR history wants to focus on unity.

She basically told these areas “If you want control over your funding, make your own city.” So they did. And she regrets it because her dumb arse MADE IT HAPPEN in multiple ways.

Actually Central already did what St George wanted to do. The circumstances in EBR probably are different in that we have a different plan of government than all the other parishes except I believe Lafayette Parish. It’s a consolidated City-Parish plan.

Agreed, but there is a lot more money in St George than in Central. A lot more.

Hopefully, STG can finally control some of the shady development deals that have been rubber stamped as under-the-table handshakes that has destroyed this area for the last 15 years. Time to put in ordinances to stop the city from being trashed by various entities.

Agreed. There is a ton of office space available in the vacated LA Gym building.

I certainly agree with that.

I was coming from the angle that when SWB's voting base finds out that she let ole Whitey take $48M of "they" money, they perhaps will vote different.

Talk to your neighbors. You may be able to succeed and move your street into it.

I'm pretty sure those will be reversed, and once the new city government is up and running, those places will have to petition to leave St. George and get that approved to go back to being unincorporated, and then will have to re-petition BTR to annex them into their city.

Most of the areas that Baton Rouge grabbed were retail. It will be interesting if the new St. George group will try to give the Mall, casino, and Seigen Place sweetheart deals to keep them in the city.

Ted James just became a more viable candidate

Honestly he doesn’t even need to agree with St George. All he has to do is say that he supports the citizens right to self-determination and now that the courts have ruled, he is committed to working with the StGeorge leadership to ensure that it is successful. Rising tide, etc. He would get a ton of support on the St George area that he might not get otherwise.

Yep.

There were all kinds of ways this could have been solved without St George becoming a thing but BR got greedy and wanted all of the money.

I gotta think Dwight Hudson has a good shot of being appointed by the Governor as the first Mayor of St. George.

Maybe. But I do know that whoever it is will be more likely to have the interest of St George first as opposed to whoever JBE would have appointed.

I would think that the addition of a second major city within the parish will be the beginning of the end for consolidated government in EBR.

AS THE LEADING Latino voice in the St. George community, LET'S frickING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I voted for this shite in 2018 and signed petitions for years. Moved to Arkansas and followed this for a long time knowing that it would eventually happen.

It is why my wife and I purposely moved back to Baton Rouge to live in the St. George area. Hickory Ridge RISE UP mofos.

I am so excited to raise my kids here and not that shite hole BR. I am pumped. I was raised on the West Bank in New Orleans, it became a shite hole and I do not want my kids raised in a similar environment.

ST .GEORGE, LET'S RIDE

I wonder how much this will raise property taxes? I own a few rental properties that fall within the city plan and have had them on government voucher programs. May have to just change that to market-based rent if they go up a lot.
