I had a wooly bugger hook go all the way through my ear several years ago. Was on a back cast and the wind blew it into me.
It was barbed.
Snipped the line and kept fishing. Buddy cut the hook after we finished fishing.

Buried a #2 gamakatsu sc15 in my friends back. Got him on the forward cast and drove that sucker home

It happens to everyone eventually.

Skip to 9:50 for hook removal

I'm an old pro at hook removals now. That wooly bugger hit my earlob perfectly just like an earring.

Had a roster tail in my leg a few weeks ago. Got caught in weeds and when I snatched it I wasn't fast enough to get out of the way. Buried one hook all the way.

I popped myself last weekend in the cheek with a wooly bugger. Got me on the back cast.

Anyone getting out there this weekend? I am so damn excited - I have the opportunity to take a little road trip to the Little Missouri in Arkansas and catch some rainbows. It is my go-to quick trip for trout. Nothing huge, but beautiful scenery and the fish will bite. Occasionally you can get into a 15 to 17 inch trout, but usually they average about a foot. Going all by my lonesome to just be outside and think.

I'm on the white right now.

Got here late and only fished for a little bit today before the water started coming up.

Excited to be able to fish hard for a few days.

Didn't have a ton of time in my trip to Tennessee so we only fished deep creek near Bryson city for about an hour. Caught this guy on a nymph dropper.

It's always crazy to me how the same type of trout can look so much different from each other. Brown trout can vary so much.

Just picked up an 8wt Behemoth with a 9'-8wt Redington Voyant rod to do some red fish/bass fly fishing. Can I get away without using tapered leaders? I was going to use a 2' section of 20# mono with a perfection loop then 5 or 6' of 12-15# with the bug tied directly to that. Will this turn over?

It definitely wouldn't be ideal, and with big bugs I doubt it would work. If you're completely averse to tapered leaders, maybe try some 40lb in the butt section, or use a braided leader as they seem to be getting popular lately.

Thanks! Im not opposed to the leaders, I was just trying to save some money. Ill keep the 30# butt section at about 1' lg and attach a tapered leader to that. What size would you recommend to cover most of my bases when it comes to bass and reds? 1x?

U need heavier than 40lbs. 60 or 80 lbs would be better, but it will also depend on the fly you plan on using (I still don't think 40 lbs is heavy enough)

Fished for 3 day on the White river this past week. Water wasn't ideal as they were experimenting with the flows. They never ran less than 1.5 units and up to 3. I was in a house at the end of wildcat shoals and even though I caught some fish I couldn't get to the far side of the river where the better holes are. I guess I caught around 20 and missed a bunch. Caught them on scuds, bead head caddis, and wooly buggers.

I use 5' 40lb mono, 2' of 30lb mono, and 2' of 20lb fluoro for reds on an 8wt. It changes when I'm fishing spookier fish though.

That combo you mentioned will give you some problems turning over bigger flies for sure.

I fish bass with a 4wt and I've had the same tapered mono leader on there for years. I just add tippet as needed. I think I use 6lb mono tip.

Caught this 14" in the Beaver Lake tailwaters next to Eureka Springs, AR. If any of y'all head up to a Razorback game; take an early Sunday trip over there before heading back. Fun stuff.

ETA: Caught via rust-colored woolly bugger

Looking to make a DIY trip to North Georgia (Blue Ridge area) in late October. I've never done any trout fishing mainly redfish and various other species that call our SELA marshes home. If any of y'all could help make my trip planning a little easier it'd be much appreciated. Trying to decide between the Toccoa River and Noontootla Creek. It'll be the GF and I camping/fly fishing for a few days.

P.s. Here are some pics to help you get through Tuesday.

I can't remember if we have anyone who has frequented that area. NC, TN, AR, PA, and NY are the cold water states I know we have covered

Have you looked on Amazon? I learned most of NC and PA through books
