Sick. That looks awesome.

did y'all camp out there?
Yeah we camped in the front country camps at Elkmont and Cosby. Both are equally nice and definitely the most well kept camps that I've stayed at. There are some really nice trails close to each campsite plus they both have some good water to fish very close by.

Awesome, I've been wanting to get up there for a short camping trip with the family.
Those pictures are awfully motivating.

Maybe overline the Recon... 9wt w/f line of your choosing

Try to reserve at least a night in cades cove and bring bikes. It's super nice to ride bikes through the loop at night when the gates are closed to cars. There are some mornings it opens late so bikes and walkers can enjoy it too. Schedule for that is online.

Going on a bachelor party to Almond, NC to Fontana lake around the Nantahala Outdoor Center for whitewater rafting and general debauchery. Want to stop if there are any close spots to do some fly fishing. Any recommendations for places to stop on the way from Hattiesburg, MS around that area?

I just got back from that area. Made a trip with Ken from Endless River Adventures. About 2 miles from the NOC. He's the best around there. All along the Natahala is awesome trout fishing right now. Also the little Tennessee is great small mouth fishing. Go give Ken a shout, he'll put you on fish.

You guys won't be too far from Cherokee. They have a pay to fish trophy section over there if you want to catch some pretty much farm raised big trout. Not too far from the park either and a bunch of good spots over there. Oconaluftee off 441 has some trout in places. Bunch of hike in stuff. I usually go out more to Cashiers when I am on that side of the mountain fishing. Will try to get some more specific places for you.
Make sure to head into Franklin(except on Sunday/Monday they are closed) and eat at Caffe REL. it's in a gas station, but don't let that stop you.

Might give it a shot.
Isn't the 8 wt Wulff Bermuda Triangle Taper actually closer to a traditional w/f 9 wt line?

Got out on the boat this weekend on Lake Wylie. New to this lake and went hunting for carp. Didn't catch any and didn't find many - the ones I did find were just cruising really not feeding Water temps 81-87 so I was wondering if they were just deeper right now with this heat. I'm determined to master this but it seems it's going to tKe some effort.
Did manage a nice catfish on a muddler style wooly bugger. That was a first for me in the fly world

Caught my first ever fish on a fly rod yesterday morning on the little River near elkmont park. Nice little rainbow, maybe 6-7 inches long. I was beyond excited. Wish I had a pic. Hiked 4 miles one way for that little fricker. Then caught one more a little ways upriver. Big rain and cold front Saturday night really helped the fishing. The trout were biting like crazy yesterday and more so today. My fly fishing has greatly improved, I still struggle with setting the hook though. It's so much different than setting the hook an anything else.

That's great and there aren't many prettier places to catch a first fish than there. That's not easy water to fish either. We only went a couple of miles up river from Elkmont last week because we had to get to a tv for the LSU game. Does it get pretty narrow higher up? I've been fishing for a while, and I still had trouble setting the hook on those fish. The Little River was probably the worst strike to catch ratio that I've ever had. I'm not sure if they're just not eating it or if I was rusty, but I was getting pretty frustrated at times.

I went about 4.5 miles from the parking area and the river stayed more or less than same width. I talked with a guy who was staying at campsite 24, which was as far as I got, who said some guys camping above him were slaying them. I've been told that's where the big browns are.

Congrats and welcome. This right here was a main reason I started this thread. Rewarding, isn't it?
keep at it

That's good to hear. Next time I go out that way I'm going to camp at one of those back country sites along that trail.

It is very rewarding. Makes bass fishing seem easy.
Man that would be awesome to camp way up there and fish.

I have seen my dad nearly take a fly to the eyeball several times since we started fly fishing. He sets the shite out of it and it flies out of the water at Mach 3.
