Sketchy boat deal or am I paranoid?

Been having a shitton of calls about the boat im selling and have yet to have anyone actually come look at the boat. Got a phone call from a guy in FL saying he's really interested in it. I go thru w/ what I have told everyone about the boat. He asks for pictures and I send atleast 20 to him of various livewells, console etc. He said he has 2 boats already but really wants this one. Understanding he is "traveling" from FL, I told him that we can take it out and he can run it, but he would not be let down by the way it looks. He then tells me that he was just gona have the boat shipped to him and he has bought a few boats sight unseen. Well I'm sure the fk not gonna let someone come pick my boat up w/o a cleared check and money in the bank. Just curious if any of you OBer's have ever sold a boat without someone actually coming to look at it.... Just sounded sketchy to me.

Yeah, sounds sketchy. Would not ship until you had cash in hand. Do not fall for any money orders, etc.

I do business face to face transactions only.

Probably a scam. He will send you a "check" prob but it won't go thru at the bank and then you will be responsible for the money and have no boat. Tell him cash only and he will probably stop.

have two friends who sold boats to UAE, without having someone inspect them. They were sketched out at first, but came out all good in the end

He was supposed to call me yesterday, said he was going to his loan officer. He just text me and said his loan officer was on vacation and that he will go back Monday.
ETA: IF it is legit, what all paperwork needs to be done? Is it basically like selling a car? Bill of sale and title?

I'd make sure the check from his bank cleared before I let someone touch the boat

I've sold to people without taking it out for a test drive, but not without seeing them.
If you get a certified/cashiers check from a legit bank, then all the risk is on him as far as the financial side. I just don't know how you'd get a notarized bill of sale. Not that you need notarized bill of sale, but to be safe and not have that liability on you, I would want one.

What kind of boat are you selling? I might be interested

Just tell him that the boat doesn't leave your yard until the check clears and funds are verified.

What about paperwork for the boat? Is it just a bill of sale? I believe he is financing it, will the bank send the title to his bank?

You can have him do a bank transfer to your bank. I have bought a couple of boats this way, and sold one also. Pretty hassle free. Tell him you will not release the boat until the funds are in your account, and make sure the shipper is insured, and bonded to do it. Take tons of pictures before you send it of EVERYTHING!!! Tires, lights, trailer, prop, and so on.

I assume you are selling the boat on thehulltruth? if so there are a lot of brokers that are on that site and they will buy a boat sight unseen if they think its a good deal. I dealt with a bunch of them when I was selling my blackjack. Don't be surprised if he comes back when his loan officer is in town and tells you he can only take out x amount and that amount is 2 grand or so below what you are asking.

Wire transfer. Usually will cost him $25 and you will have the money in an hour after he does it.
You will need to give him your checking acct number and routing number, which is no big deal... it's on every check that is written.

No its on LASM. We havent even negotiated price yet, thats why I'm skeptic on him getting a loan already. If the dude is gona pay me that amount... Im not gonna talk him out of it.

Since you have it financed, the bank that has your loan will have to be paid before they'll release any papers on the boat. Like the others said, don't turn over the boat to anyone until the lien holder says your loan is paid off.

it's probably a scam but what will it cost you to play it out to see. In the meantime maybe you can sell it to bayoudude.
