No, go ready resale and reliability reviews. They are at the bottom of the domestics.

This just simply isn't true. Strong, you are a smart guy, do your own research. Because you will get bullshite like this on this website

Ram is a completely different vehicle once they left dodge. I have owned Chevy, Ram, and ford in my life. I am not brand loyal. When I bought my new truck in 2014, my research and personal preference led me to Ram

How anybody could ever want an aluminum body HD truck is beyond me.

That bed will be so bent and gouged and dented to hell in a year if you do anything with it. Jambalaya pot legs will frick it up, forget about anything thats actually heavy.

I got a 2001 2wd 1500 in the fall of 2000. I drove it like a college student for 4 years then my dad swapped with me. He was going to get a new car at some point and gave me his suv. He kept the truck as a second vehicle for a few years then gave it to my uncle. He drove it from 2007 to 2015 and only sold it because he wanted a 4x4. Still running great and the only thing we did to it was buy new L tires and change the oil plus other regular maintenance. Had a 318 in it and would fly.

You can almost gouge aluminum with your fingernail. It's soft as hell. Chevrolet has nothing to do with the properties of aluminum.

Right. Have had my aluminum bed for a solid year now and filled it up and moved furniture constantly for the last month and haven't once been worried about the metal of the bed being an isssue.

I thought you were smarter than that.

So it holds up wonderfully to wood, cloth, and cardboard? Good to know. Will consider for my next furniture truck.

Held up fine to brick and concrete too. Why are you acting like truck owners try to shoot steel darts through their truck beds on the reg?

How very 1970s of you. Like I said, thought you were smarter than that.

My old '94 RAM has 240K miles on it and it's still going. Had to rebuild the transmission at 210K.

I remember an old 98 single cab ram that hit a culvert at 221,000. She'd still be running today if that ol culvert wouldn't have gotten in my way. Piece of shite.

Every time this topic comes up, trannys are the first thing people mention. When Daimler merged with Chrysler and the 47rh/re on the diesels and the 46rh/46re were changed or replaced, it became a thing of the past. Its one of 2 things Chrysler got in return for being gutted by Daimler. The other thing was......
Powertrain control management! Those 94-00 dodge trucks got crappy mileage compared to a comparable GM. While I dont like the 4.7 at all and it was a Ford copy, the newer engines seemed to have gotten better mileage wise, whether forced by the EPA or not.

Ford and GM don't exactly have stellar records either with the Ford 5.4 shooting spark plugs out of the heads and the 4.6 intake cracking issues, and the piston slap on the GM trucks. Look up recalls on the original Canyon/Colorado sometime too. Comparing JUST engines, dodge probably had a better reliability

Have they improved at all?

Yes. Make sure you get hemi + 8 speed. Very reliable combo. The hemi has been around with only minor changes since 2003, it's also a pushrod V8 so it's simple. The 8 speed transmission is designed/built by ZF who also makes transmissions for Jaguar and BMW among others. I actually think a variant of the zf 8 speed is holding up to the Hellcat's 707 hp.

While I love my Ram, only thing that would give me pause is they are getting a little outdated. They did/do a great job keeping up with the competition, but the truck is due for an overhaul. Think the new one is debuting later this year or next and released either 2018 or 2019.

I've had 3 hemi Rams - 2004, 2011, and a 2015 now. All were trouble free.

ETA: For those saying Ram "left" dodge, that is incorrect. They are still a part of the Fiat Chrysler Automotive group. After Fiat bought Chrysler they spun Ram off into their own "brand". Ram = Trucks, Jeep = SUV, Dodge = Performance, Chrysler = Luxury. Those lines are a little blurred now, but that's the basic rundown. The spinoff worked bc it made most people think Ram was on their own and they forgot about past transgressions. Also, they Ram is now no longer bogged down by bad reliability ratings for its counterpart brands. When you see reliability ratings for Ram, it's 100% trucks/vans and nothing else. Pretty sure Ram is the only brand to have consistent month to month sales gains for 4 years running, maybe more. It's also, surprisingly, the #1 truck in Canada Just some fun facts for everyone. Lol

I'm a huge fan of the trucks ram currently has on the market besides the eco diesel. IMO, the ram HD gasser with the 6.4 is the best general purpose work truck on the market.

6.4 is a great motor, akin to GM's 6.2...sucks that we can't get one in a 1500. If Ram would drop a few hundred pounds, throw the 6.4 in as an option, and upgrade the brakes it'd be the top 1500 on the market IMO.
