So I'm sailing around Cross Lake. Wind's blowing like crazy. And we see this party barge out in the middle of the lake downwind of us but it doesn't appear to have anyone on it. Now it occurs to us, that this is probably somebody out there banging in the sun and doesn't want to be disturbed and we just can't see them since they're down below the sidewalls. But this thing is drifting like crazy in this wind.

After a half hour or so it occurs to us that we still have yet to see a soul on this boat and it's traveling pretty fast on the wind heading for the opposite shore.

A. Could be somebody really grinding one out that doesn't want to be disturbed.

B. Could be they had a health issue and are laid out croaking on their deck.

C. Could be this thing is an escapee from shore and there was never anybody on it.

D. Could be they fell off and we should be looking for them.

We don't know. So we bring the boat around and set up to intercept them. As we get within about 200 yards we start talking loud so they'll know we're coming and I'm yelling at my guy on the bow to hail the boat just in case there's somebody on there that would rather not have a silent sailboat full of guys standing eight feet at the eyeballs above the waterline come inspect them within a couple feet of their boat without them realizing we're there.

We see a nekkid arm wave.

We tack away. Couple minutes later we see an Old dude and his Old lady get up adjusting their clothes to sit in the seats and let us know it's all good.

Viagra is obviously a thing of wonder.

We apologized from a distance and let them know why we were coming to look and sailed away. I shudder to think what we'd have found had we stayed quiet.

So you're saying you saw that the boat was a rockin' and you bothered knockin'? Come on man, as an experienced sailor, you know the rules.

I think he was drifting on purpose. Waves were up and he was in the middle of the lake.

Tiger if you see one with a big black pirate flag give us a wave! We all fly those so we can spot each other at a distance. We've got a few boats that we sail out of Barrons every week. Usually just crew for each other.

I've seen that flag on a boat before. Haven't sailed at all since I moved to TX but I'll be on the lookout next time I'm out there

A couple of weeks ago, after a tournament out of Ford Park, I saw a Chinaman strapped into a big arse kite, trying to wind surf. As soon as he hit the water, he and his kite got blown straight into a cypress tree. No telling how long he hung there.

I laughed when I read this.

As a child we always had a great time on the lake quietly sailing up and scaring the crap out of the people fooling around on their boats. It was always great when you got a young lady sans top to pop up all startled.

"So grandpa just forgot to set the anchor before hoisting the mast? " LOL

Probably had set his "anchor" and didn't want to
"unset" it.

He was a smart old bastard! He knows he's too old to go all down to pound town. He might throw out a hip!

Why not just use the rocking of the waves to get him thrusting?!?

Yeah I imagine by that age you've probably got all the logistics worked out ahead of time.

And yes, this does happen a lot on this lake. One of our guys is a freaking regular at it. Also, that pirate flag is a boob magnet on weekend afternoons in the summer. Get them old gals out there all lit up and you're lucky if that's all they pop out.

There's a few sailboard guys out there. The good one's live over on the north shore and we've seen them out there in really high winds in the middle of winter when we're bundled up in all the layers we can pile on to sail. They're out there doing a million miles an hour in a wetsuit. We salute them as they go by because they got way bigger balls than we do.
