re: Backyard Birdwatchers - LSUCouyon
We have 4 purple Martin families in a house in our backyard right by the water and see barn swallows and swifts doing their thing also. Coolest birds out here are the Ospreys . Don't see them often but it's atreat when we do. I saw one with a huge shad flying toward bAyou Maco where I'm sure there ...

re: Backyard Birdwatchers - LSUCouyon
One of my favorites of the sparrow clan is the fox sparrow. I love watching them around a feeder where my mom lives. Having lived with us on the lake here and watching all the waterfowl, including resident Canadas, many different ducks, pelicans cormorants, coots etc., when she went into a nursing ...

re: African American Solutions for Peace and Happiness? - LSUCouyon
I will probably get pounded here, but I have been thinking for a long time that had MLK not been assassinated, things would surely have been different. I think what he preached was equality in opportunity, not a soul killing handout program that has kept the majority of the black population looking f...

re: Florida teen recovering after Water moccasin bite to his face - LSUCouyon
That reminded me of a story about a guy from Cottonport, La. Some of you Avoyellesians may know of Pierre (not saying his last name). A cousin of mine was in Lee's Bar outside of C'Port, maybe 40 years ago. This inebriated Crawfisherman came in the bar with a sack full of a 4' cottonmouth and shoo...

re: Going price for deer lease is this too high? - LSUCouyon
Before it was sold by International Paper Co, Diamond Island was leased for 40 per acre. 33 for LaSalle seems pretty high, esp if they cut all the hardwoods. ETA: A friend is paying $30 per acre for 474 acres between Woodville and Ft. Adams, Ms. Hunting way better there than most of LaSalle Paris...

re: Angler Fatally Stabbed During Fishing Trip - LSUCouyon
Somewhere in the bowels of the story is that the victim called the perps pistol's magazine a (GASP) clip!!! some here would say the killing was therefore justified!...

re: Do you tell anglers anything if you see them keeping undersized fish? - LSUCouyon
There is no size limit on them. Possession limit is 25 there vs. 50 in most of the rest of the state. He could have kept them. But then he wanted to get rid of them to keep his greedy arse fishing. My point to him was that if he wasn't proud of them now, he shouldn't have put them in the ice chest in...

re: Do you tell anglers anything if you see them keeping undersized fish? - LSUCouyon
The most aggravated I have ever gotten about this sort of thing was the time several years ago that 2 guys in a boat waved us down and asked if we wanted some fish. This was at Poverty Point Reservoir. I asked what was going on and the dude tells me they had caught each a 25 fish (Sac-au-lait) limit...

re: What will the impact of gay marriage be in the 2016 election? - LSUCouyon
I think you hit it right on the nose. This is an issue that the Republicans will obsess over and the media will stoke the fires to keep the far right agitated to the point that they ignore the REALLY dangerous crap that another Clinton presidency will keep at the table. I would hate to think that we...

re: Ship Island information - LSUCouyon
Mrs. Couyon and I spent a great afternoon out at Ship Island last year. We took the ferry out there but there were quite a few small boats that had gone out and anchored on the land side. The beach is pretty nice. There is an old fort there that was pretty interesting. There was also a lot of bird l...

re: Capturing ducks - LSUCouyon
We came home yesterday from a trip to town and as pulled into the driveway, a mallard hen came flying out of the flower bed about 10' from the front door. I checked it out and found she had built a cozy nest under some irises and hostas. Not likely she will stay with my truck parked about 10 ft away...

Reminds me of a story a guide down south told us about a couple he took fishing. The lady had to pee and the guide didn't have a bucket so he offered his live well that they weren't using. She wouldn't hang it over the side. The lady does her business then asks hubby for MORE turlit paper. What for s...
