Yep you will get the shite beat out of you

Yellowfin, Jupiter, Regulator & Everglades are my favorites. Regulators are amazing, but a lot of people find them a little overweight. Everglades are great too, there's just too many electrical/wiring issues that make them somewhat impractical.
EDIT: They're all an overpriced black hole that is capable of holding an infinite amount of money.

IMO
Best: yellowfin, Jupiter, Freeman, any boat you can afford that gets you out and back
B team: contender, regulator
Speed: invincible, fountain
Non OTballer: cape horn
Don't belong in conversation: pursuit, gravois
Unsure: scout ( I own a smaller one and it's a great boat just don't know that the bigger ones are substantial enough to be in the league with the best)

Having run both...
Regulator - heavy hull, smooth and very dry ride, pushes waves aside, lower mpg than most hulls. More of a 'big boat' feel.
Contender - lighter hull, rides 'over' the waves, fast, good mpg, can get wet with a crosswind. Did i mention fast?
Never been on a yellowfin, but I hear they're great, and they certainly look good.
If it got rough in a hurry, I'd rather be in a Regulator than Contender, no experience on the others.
Personally I think the Scout and Everglades look like garbage, but I hear they're both good hulls.

Whats the deal with no love for the pursuits, every one Ive talked to they are a nicer version of contenders.

It's all about what qualities you look for personally
When I think of best offshore CC Im looking for ride, speed, fishability, durability, fit &finish
Pursuit is nowhere near the ride of a contender and in my experience they usually are slower and Ive never been impressed with the fit and finish or lines.....I lump pursuit in with grady white......nice wide heavy slow solid boats......nothing "wrong" with them they have just never
gotten me excited.......kind of an old man/family cruiser feel to them
IMO YFs Jupiters and others have distanced themselves in
the offshore CC market.......Everglades has been innovative with the "cool" gadget angle but not the greatest ride

Freeman 33. Hands down the best. Not the fastest but the smoothest.

I don't think they folded just only doing gov. contracts
To the OP. Have you considered the Freeman 33 Catamaran? Probably rides better than any of the boats you mentioned.

Fin Cats are awesome too. I like the name

Last time I was at Pellegrin Marine they had a fincat in for engine work. Looked like a nice boat but it did show some corrosion. Not sure if the owner kept up with his anodes. If I had the money I would go Freeman I also am interested in the Calcutta 263 catamaran. 40mph with twin 90's and cruises with a 4mpg fuel burn. the fold down transom would be great for diving and hauling in large fish.

But now you are going to more "reasonable" boats...

My dad and late grandfather always had Boston Whalers. My dad had a 25 outrage with twin 150s that would beat you to death and my grandfather had a 27 offshore with twin 250s that rode marginally better. Haven't rode on the new designs to compare the ride but did get to crawl a 37' center console rigged up for defense work at the last work boat show in NOLA that thing is a beast with tripple verados.

Definitely the boats mentioned in the OP cost more than OT baller McMansions.

What's wrong with contenders?
Posted on 9/2/11 at 10:13 am to cougar38
Way too narrow of a boat IMO. Mass produced and I head stories of them getting beat up quickly because of that. Again. Too frickjng narrow
Posted on 9/2/11 at 10:16 am to mylsuhat
The contenders I've seen and been on have been great. But to each his own.
