Pretty much all of them will be in the length to beam ratio of 3
Cats shine in the fact that you get the L/B ratio of around 10 for each of the hulls but get the stability advantage of having your displacement located outboard. The only downside is that if you collapse the tunnel you will pound.

quote:Yeah which was kind of my point. All of the usual suspects will be around the same beam, but he singled out Contender as being too narrow. I just didn't know what he was comparing them to. A panga maybe...

42' Yellowfin FTW
Honorable Mention:
39 Contendo
the Jupiter has no where near enough fuel for canyon fishing the gulf

I've always thought of a Hydra Sport as a good CC boat, but I've seen no mention of them. Any reason?

That 42' Yellowfin is a beast. The new 39' Yellowfin is quite nice as well. For either, you are looking at or above $400K...that is a lot of cash for a boat without a kitchen and staterooms.

yeah for that kind of change you can get a damn nice used sportfisher with all the comforts of home.

Not much love for these? They are bigger in FL I guess. I've fished out of a 21' in the bay, but never been further out than about 8 miles. They are spartan, but seemed pretty solid.

Pretty much what i have heard. They seem to have really high freeboard up front so they should be up for some nasty conditions and I hear their construction is solid. They just don't have all the bells and whistles of the other brands.

The Gulf was like glass the day we took it offshore. That bitch screamed with 250 Yamaha on it though. I was impressed.

i dont think you can say that any one boat is "best". Lots of companies make a damn fine boat. Lots of companies make just ok boats. Just like anything else you gotta figure out whats most important to you and go from there. As one quality increases, like speed, you will always sacrifice another, like ride. I have been out in the gulf on boats built by Contender, Twin-vee, Stamas, Hydra-Sports, and Venture. I would have to say my favorite was the 34 Venture although it seemed a little underpowered and probably could have used a bigger fuel tank but we were pushing it at 120 miles out on an overnighter.

I've never been on a venture but ive heard they ride the best.

of all the boats i've fished on i think it's hard to beat a 36 contender all things considered
Posted on 4/16/12 at 9:43 pm to GEAUXT
it's certainly not a family boat, but imo it is almost perfectly set up to kill everything that swims

Is that a venture?!
