Good point here. I had plenty of opportunity to sink into the wrong crowds and probably wreck my future - I chose not to (and really worked hard at the grades) b/c I wanted to have the job and life that I currently have.

Would the counter argument here be that my race (white) allowed me to be in a position to make that decision?

In reference to brought here, I was talking about the group as a whole and the transcontential slave trade.

I saw a stat the other day that said white high school drop outs make more than black and brown college graduates. That was shocking.

In their treatment indirectly. I saw a article the other day about people suing Bank of America for racist policies in "black"neighborhoods that weren't being applied in "white"neighborhoods. I'll find it

Yeah, but once those whites get into medical school, specifically, they maintain the lowest attrition rate for academic reasons. It's almost definitely because the training is geared toward white people and the way that they think.

did this take into account criminal records?

while both groups are assuredly higher than the national average, i'd imagine that makes a huge difference (and is a big difference all over)

i will bet you the distinction had different objective criteria...like income, credit scores, etc

I just find it funny when non minorities blame the 3 minorities in a class of 200 for their failings to get into a professional school.

Somehow the 3 minorites that got acceptance didn't earn it on their on merit. It's infuriating.

Like I said, if schools were only taking blsck and brown applicants to their professional schools, then we wouldn't be experiencing the lowest number of black male doctors in the last 30 years

White Guilt is very strong with that cartoonist.

He's ashamed of the color of his skin, and is embarrassing himself to try and appease the Blacks.

You're better off arguing against the variables used to find the results.

well it's like the one in the OP where they discuss people with the "same GPA". it's an unpleasant stat, but a bad one

Ya pretty useless stat.

A 3.6 GPA at LSU isn't the same as a 3.6 at William and Mary. Not only is the latter a much tougher school, it also actively curves classes to combat grade inflation.

Then take it further. Take your same GPA to DC and interview against them for the job. Another differentiator. And so on.
