Honestly, things like Santa and the Easter Bunny were some of the reasons Scruffy started questioning religion.

Toys, candy, bearded old guys, and giant rabbits.

I had the same exact thought this morning. Let's display everything and take a picture! Thanks Easter Bunny!

Why has the Easter Bunny become another Santa? Does the Easter Bunny have a sleigh? How does he get in? Does he have helpers? How is an animal doing all this?

We spent most of our Easter's in Destin when I was growing up. Chocolate rabbits, candy, and pool/beach toys were the norm.

This was us every Easter too, except for the beach toys. It was chocolate rabbits, goldbrick eggs, jelly beans, robin's eggs, peeps, etc etc. Also a stuffed bunny, chick etc when I was young.
Not poor, but guess Easter was never a big gift giving holiday back in the late 80's. We were way more excited about a week at the beach and crawfish boils.

I remember getting small stuffed animals or little bunny wind up toys and lots of pez dispensers. Easter meant a Pez dispenser. Maybe a book as well added to all the candy.

Oh and peeps and goldbrick eggs

Mine got candy. The older 2 got $20 gifts cards to Cane's (grad student can always use this) and Sonic (he's a junior and likes to hang out with friends). #3 got a pair of $20 Nike shorts.

Within reason here in my opinion.

I always got something relatively small and clothes.. Same for my kids.. They got two shirts, candy, baseball cards and some fun outdoor stuff, eg; wiffle balls, frisbee, moon ball and the youngest got a stuffed animal.

Eta.. I got more clothes as I aged and so will my kids.. Just give it to them at Easter instead of dragging them around shopping.. Everyone's happy.

this is one of those examples you can think of when you hear people bitching that $100k salary is "middle class"

dumbass turkeys made me laugh. I think as I get older, thanksgiving is getting to be more of my favorite holiday. Good food, family, football, turkey bowl, turkey trot 5k, great weather, etc.

Really it should be bigger than Christmas.

x1000000 except not in the sense of giving gifts. As I told a boy the other day who was wondering aloud what his parents were going to get him, isn't salvation enough of a gift?

I'm 30 now and growing up we received Nintendo games, polo shirts, trail mix and granola bars for Easter. My mother was a health nut and ahead of times.

When I was young in the 80's we got huge baskets and gifts from aunts and uncles and granparents. Same thing I see to this day. It's usually not huge gifts, usually for us it was summer-centric stuff like beach toys, towels with ninja turtles (still popular, lol) and super soakers.

When I was a kid I loved looking forward to holidays, and I will pass that along.

Smart thing to do is give the candy and 1-3 small toys/activities to keep the kids occupied while they come down off their sugar-high. As a kid, every year I got one of theses wooden paddles with the ball attached to it and some bubble making stuff. (Yes, I'm old)
