re: Gear Grinding: Non High School/College Graduation Ceremonies - SirSaintly
But did you wear a cap & gown? I think that's what's stupid. We had a kindergarten ceremony at end of year, but there was no cap & gown or diploma or every member of my extended family in attendance, or gift registrys or parties. That's what's out of control....

re: Gear Grinding: Non High School/College Graduation Ceremonies - SirSaintly
No kidding. It is stupid and a waste of time and money.  It is just one more instance where the shitty parents of today try to make their kids feel special about every inane "accomplishment" thus ruining their ability to function in reality.
fricking this!...

re: HS Graduation - SirSaintly
I think a little enthusiasm is warranted for the high school graduation. But my FB feed is blowing up with parents flipping out over Kindergarten graduations. When did kids start wearing a cap & gown for finishing a year of kindergarten? It's freaking ridiculous. I'm so glad you're celebrating the f...

re: Dentists for Children... Are Parents Out of Control? - SirSaintly
 Kids, even 5 yr olds, aren't as helpless as parents these days are making them out to be. Unless, they never get to do anything on their own. Oh, and your kid has a better chance of being molested by his uncle than your dentist. And if you're in the dentist's office b/c you're afraid th...

re: Dentists for Children... Are Parents Out of Control? - SirSaintly
I was going to a dentist at 5 in the early 90's. It was a regular family dentist office. My mother drove me there and we sat in the waiting room. When they called my name, I got up and walked in alone. Dentist looked at my teeth for a bit and then nice lady hygienist cleaned them. Upon walking me ...

re: Dentists for Children... Are Parents Out of Control? - SirSaintly
The problem with having some parents in the exam room with the kids is that some of these crazy parents are fearful of the dentist themselves or just super over protective of their kids and freak out about every little thing. If the kid is anxious, the parents anxious behavior just encourages...

re: Dentists for Children... Are Parents Out of Control? - SirSaintly
None of these moms are worried about their kid being molested by the dentist though. There are like 10 comments now and every single one is saying little junior would be scared without mommy nearby. One mom praised her dentist b/c he let's her sit in the chair while she holds the kid in her lap. I m...

re: Dentists for Children... Are Parents Out of Control? - SirSaintly
That's pretty standard for pediatric dentists. They can control the child's anxiety better if the parent is not hovering nearby.
This is what I figured. Parents tend to project their own fears/anxieties onto their kids. It's not like the dentist is locked in a room alone with the...

Dentists for Children... Are Parents Out of Control? - SirSaintly
A friend of mine asked for pediatric dentist recommendations for her child? Immediately another mother started going off about some dentist that wouldn't allow her to be in the room with her 5 yr old during the exam/cleaning and how appalling that was. More mothers started chiming in about how they'...

re: Need A Mattress Cover/Protector - SirSaintly
It's more for protection of dust mites, dead skin etc. Sure, there is sometimes the occasional bodily fluid too. As well as accidental spills, like that time I drunkenly spilled my beer. I'd hate to put the blacklight on Nurse's mattress. :yack:...

Need A Mattress Cover/Protector - SirSaintly
Ordered a Tuft & Needle foam mattress last night and would like to get a mattress cover/protector for it. I remember the salesman trying to sell me a $100 waterproof membrane last time I bought a mattress about 6 yrs ago, so I guess something like that. I don't want it to be plasticky or feel...

French Quarter-Cabildo, Presbytyre, French Market etc. It was awesome. They still sold Chinese throwing stars, knives etc. and we all bought Chinese throwing stars. Doubt most 7th grade teachers would allow that nowadays  Ship Island Bunny Bread Factory tour...

re: Memory Foam Mattress Recommendations - SirSaintly
Wow, that sounds like a great mattress. I'm pretty set on the Sleep Innovations King. It dropped to $669 on Amazon yesterday. I'm waiting for it to drop a little more before I pull the trigger. I'm kicking myself for not getting it when it was $479 a few months back. I'm also considering the Tuft...
