SC and Arkansas are pretty much tied for me. Now that I think about it, SC is probably more southern than ARK

The frick? Have you ever been to South Carolina?

You could probably exclude much of South Louisiana as well.

For starters, these three are like the Holy Trinity of the South.

I am working the assumption OP is talking about culture, and not location.

For me:

The traditional south:

GA, SC, NC, AL, MS, TN

the south, but kinda its own deal

Louisiana and Texas.

The south in parts, and takes on other areas in parts:

North florida is southern, and parts of Arky are as well.

The used to be south:

VA

the south we don't claim, eventhough it has a feel to it sparingly:
Kentucky, West Virginia, and Missouri

The ones who were part of the Great Confederacy are what I consider the South.

Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia would be more like the Holy Trinity of the South

Fair assessment. I would add the south we don't claim: Kentucky, West Virginia, and Missouri.

I'm going to say that most of the SEC states, but not all. Parts of Missouri, maybe from St. Louis and south. Then, along the Ohio River to the Atlantic and south.

South Louisiana is not the South, we have to go north to reach the South. Acadiana, the Mississippi Valley below Baton Rouge and the Isle of Orleans are not the South.

I might be swayed either way on Texas, after all, it was its own Country, there, for a brief, shining moment.

It would be the holy quartet to me:

AL, MS, GA, & SC

Alabama
Mississippi

Georgia
Tennessee

I'm from California so here's how I see it....

Texas isn't in the south
Florida is geographically, but most parts aren't culturally
All other states mentioned are southern, except Virginia

Edit- Kentucky and Tennessee are southern.

West Virginia and Missouri aren't
