What states do you consider to actually be the South?

The South is like an identity. Much more than a geographic location. I guess as a Gulf Coast resident my perspective is skewed/flawed, but really I don't consider most of the states that others do to be in the South.

Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, the FL panhandle, Tennessee, Georgia. After that, I have trouble justifying the others. I guess Arkansas would be next in for me, but after that I've got a couple arguments.

You don't consider TN to be in the South?

Do you even know what a Vol is?

While I understand the reason for not including Texas, every single northerner considers us the south.

You have trouble justifying South Carolina as a part of the South?

TN is in there. Sorry if my wording is a little hard to interpret. Not firing on all cylinders currently

The people I have worked with that live in Virginia (outside of D.C.) think they are southern. I always think they are misguided, but I am no expert.

and therein lies the eternal argument. Clearly southerners are going to have a different view than northerners. But even if others don't consider you the south, at least you're not the North!

It's like a muskrat, right? Except more inbred and smells like moonshine?

SC and Arkansas are pretty much tied for me. Now that I think about it, SC is probably more southern than ARK

If grits are a staple of the local diet, then the state is culturally Southern.

Where was the capital of the confederacy?

You aren't misguided. You are simply ignorant.
