Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, the FL panhandle, Tennessee, Georgia. After that, I have trouble justifying the others. I guess Arkansas would be next in for me, but after that I've got a couple arguments.
Allow me to be the first South Carolinian to downvote your dumb ignorant yankee transplant arse .... oh, and BTW, we were so southern here we broke off from North Carolina because they were too yankee for us.
We fired the first shots in the most Southern thing of all.
We were the original true Southern original Colony.
"Southern Belle" was coined in Charleston ... as was "Southern Debutante."
And oh, you need to check your map. Georgia is not on the Gulf Coast and no, South Carolina is not north of Georgia ... SC is east of GA. Big difference.
But whatever. I may start a couple of alter accounts just to throw some more downvotes your way.

Being a part of the Confederate States of America doesn't automatically make you part of the South.
No one considers Arizona or New Mexico as part of the South.

All those others feel the same to me while I am there. But South La is it's own ballgame

I would say that GA, SC, AL, MS, TN, NC, LA and Ark are part of the present, most general South.
People hesitating on SC are weird, it's arguably the centerpiece of the South.
But all of the following have either cultures or areas that depart from the traditional south: LA, ARK, TN, NC. Mountain south is just different, South LA is just different, Arkansas is just weird. On the other side, you have Northern FL.

Not Texas
They do have a confederate flag at the state line, though most people would never know it even when they see it.

I consider South Carolina more southern than Arkansas

Parts of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

I'm from ky and I consider it the south. I'm only 29 miles from tn, though.
Kentucky, like parts of Virginia and Florida are a mixed bag. I've spent time in Louisville. I certainly wouldn't classify it as a southern city. Lexington on the other hand...
I'll stand by my picks of
South Carolina
Georgia
Tennessee
Alabama
Mississippi
Missouri - hell no. That is as Mid-Western as you can get. Missouri is as Southern as Iowa, Indiana, or Illinois.
Oklahoma - get real.
Arkansas - I really don't know enough about it
Texas - No. Much like California and New York, Texas is its own, unique thing.
Louisiana - See Texas. More Southern than Texas, but when I really think of the South, Louisiana doesn't pop into my mind. The state has too many unique, nuances.
Florida - portions are, but the state as a whole, no.
North Carolina - It's becoming more and more of a progressive state. I'd lump it into the same group as Kentucky or Louisiana. It's more Southern than most, but it's venturing into that Mid-Atlantic region.
Virginia - while is used to be Southern, I view it as more Mid-Atlantic. I think the people want to distance themselves from the South.
