Isn't there a bill right now were budget cuts can only be taken away from Education and Health Care in Louisiana? If so, that needs to change quick.

--------------------------------------------------------------

There isn't any proposed legislation, this is the practical reality in LA. It's a state issue, but obviously affects local municipalities like New Orleans.

I'm no political insider, expert or watchdog, but as a semi-informed citizen, this is my understanding of tbe situation:
Many, if not most, pork barrel projects are constitutionally protected in LA. By law, they can't be cut. When the budget can't be balanced, as it's required to be by law, Education and Healthcare are the easy targets for cuts. Raising taxes is a very unpopular notion in LA, especially if you wanted to run for president and had Grover Norquist's dick in your mouth.

Louisiana needs to have a constitutional convention and clean up the existing mess. This isn't a new development, it's been needed for at least 30 years. But it won't happen because it'll jepordize the personal fiefdoms that some of our legislators have built for themselves and their political allies.

frick us.

I think we should then stick to the current MO Blame Democrats, until a Republican gets in and when nothing happens, just say he was a bad Republican and the cycle begins again.

Also the mics are not to listen in, only detect gunshots. The system has been tested elsewhere and yes we will one day have surveillance drones. Government already runs the schools anyway, so that point is moot.
shotspotter gunspotter detection system.

The real problem is EVERYONE WANTS CHANGE BUT NOONE HAS ANY IDEAS ON WHAT CHANGE SHOULD BE

The answer is gentrification. It sucks because much will be lost in the process. However, every successful city has better demographics than NOLA.

New Orleans:

58.5% Blacks
31.3% Whites
5.6% Hispanics

Just too much "culture"

the chance to do that was in sept 2005
the slate was clean, the city was empty, the future was whatever we wanted it to be

never again will a city that size have a chance at the reset button

Explain what corruption is to the people who live and work here and try to eliminate it.

Nowhere else is there such a wink-nod cluster frick of having to direct part of a contract to cousin jimmy and uncle Martin.

Also, nobody cares where you went to high school.

5000 free one way bus tickets to a lobster buffet in Mississippi distributed throughout the ninth ward would be a good start.

I agree, but the government can't really make parents care.

They can't make them care but you can punish those single parent families and reward the 2 parent house holds.
