Nope, but you're the guy that threw an arbitrary time line of every 3-5 years on the scenario.
50 to 70 percent over 3 to 5 years covers 95% of new cars and financing situations. That's a good starting point - I don't pretend that's perfect, but that's how you do the math.
Certainly buying a used car (even certified) off lease, doesn't result in an additional 50 to 70 percent depreciation over the next 3 to 5 years - drops to about half that - again in most situations.
It's the first owner that takes the massive haircut in the "always drive new" world. Now, if you buy a new car and drive it until the wheels fall off, your depreciation loss is sort of averaged out over the service life of the vehicle.
But you're not in favor of doing that, either, are you?

Argument started long before I got here, hoss. But nice try.

Not always true, hence why I say FOR CERTAIN VEHICLES, new can make more sense.

Domestic trucks, for starters. Will I need to say it a third time?
My f150 I bought in 2012 for $29300 is a perfect example. I drove it for 2 years and over 30k miles, and got $25k out of it.
Tell me about this massive haircut I could have avoided by buying it used.
ETA: The deal I got was nothing special that anyone else couldn't have gotten. I'm far from the only one with that experience.

Buying ANYTHING new that isn't a Toyota truck/SUV, driving it 2yr/30k and only losing $4300 is pretty damn ridiculous, dude. I'm not doubting you, I'm just telling you that from a car salesman's perspective, that's definitely not normal.

Plenty of Accord owners can say the same.

I'd be wary of those pre-2005 (and even up to 2008) Boxsters - IMS bearing failure is a real thing.
Even 911s had the issue.
The "good" think about the Pre-2005 models is the crankcase doesn't have to be split to replace the bearing. Plus Vinnie's in BR can put in a LN/Flat 6 IMS retrofit. If you buy well and do this you should have no IMS issues.

If no one has mentioned an early 2000s BMW Z3 M Coupe, that’s my answer.
Has the same motor as the E46 I think and I way lighter, quirky look that grows on you, and fun driving experience
Edit: Nevermind. The S54 engine ones are appreciating like crazy now. You can sill get the other engine variant near or slightly under $15k, so hats not bad

A family member told me about this Christiansburg, VA importer who brings in funky, used right-hand drive Japanese cars.
1991 Nissan Figaro Convertible $8,990
1990 Subaru Sambar 4WD Firetruck $9,900
1989 Nissan S-Cargo Van $11,900
2013 Daihatsu HiJet Deck Van $12,900
Not the safest vehicles, but might be a cool toy.

Yep, the S54 engined M Coupes have started to increase significantly. There were less than 700 made with the S54 engine. It is basically the same engine as the E46 M3 but down 15-20 hp due to the more restrictive exhaust. There were probably 4 times as many built in 99 and 00 with the S52 engine shared with the US E36 M3.

You would agree, then, that buying new (or leasing) every 3 to 5 years is probably the most expensive way (all other things being equal) to manage this expense, wouldn't you?
I wouldn't make that blanket statement. That's like saying that there are no brand new investment cars.

Japanese Classics outta Richmond VA specializes in importing Japanese vehicles that are in good shape. They still must be at least 25 years old because of the US’s dumb import ban. Being the old Toyota/ Land Cruiser geek...Landcruisers Direct imports older LC’s...most with DIESELS, which isn’t available stateside.
