Straight razors I guess?
DE = Double Edge. Pic below. Feather is a brand of Japanese-made stainless steel razor. The same company engineers surgical tools unless I am mistaken. It's simply a brand. Much of the discussion also includes shaving cream/soap that must be applied with a brush. For the most part, it's cheaper per shave to use than what you would probably think of as the traditional canned stuff. Exception is Barbasol. This stuff, in general, is also a bit slicker and makes a shave easier/better than canned gels, usually. It also comes from a wide variety of unscented to sandalwood, various fruits, almond, I even saw one the other day from Bathouse Soaps that was Tobacco and Whisky or something like that. Could it be considered unmanly to shave with. Lemon lime scent? Sure. But it's cheaper, better, and longer lasting.

People have been wet shaving since before "metrosexual" was even a word. And Feathers is brand of Japanese razor blades. The sharpest.
Gotcha.....to someone coming into the thread looking to troll, the terminolgy looks very metrosexual. I was mistaken in my rash judgment of unmanliness. I shall hang my head in shame until I finish this dump.

Morning person. It's best to get into a routine early. It helps me stay focused throughout the day.

I have a Merkur 38c, and mostly use Gillette Silver Blue blades. Using Taylor of Old Bond St. St. James shaving cream right now.

I just got started with the Merkur 34C, Merkur blade that came with the handle, Omega boar bristle, Proraso White soap, and a Dove after shave balm that I already had. I'm thinking of switching to Feather blades when I re-up.
The Feather blade gives a smoother shave for me.
Thanks for the tip. I have thick stubble but wanted to try the standard blade before I jumped in and got the sharpest blade out there. I literally just started and am still on the blade that came with my Merkur. I must say I'm pleased with my Proraso White soap, to say the least.

I have been using a merkur long handle for a few months but got the Feather AS-D2 for Christmas. The difference is amazing.

Only things I shave are my unibrow and my balls, baw. Gillette Mach 3 all day.

quote:Confession/discovery. Had been using Schick or Wilkinson 4 or 5 blades. OK but expensive and not always close shaves. Meanwhile my wife started using BIC Soleil disposables for her purposes. One day in the shower my blades were giving out and I sneaked her BIC to finish out on my face. To my shock, I got the closest, smoothest shave ever! Now without shame I admit that I buy them for me and use them - they last long and aren't expensive. BIC Soleil. Nice ergonomic feel, too. Do I get a pass on this, or do I need to surrender my man-card?
What are the good people of TigerDroppings using these days?

Shave in the shower with "Kiss your face" shaving cream and the same Gillette mach II I have used for 20 years. Why all the fuss over new fangled
You can't use "kiss my face" brand and mock metro sexuality in DE shaving. Or use the term newfangled. To say that you better be using only Barbasol. And not the green can. Only red white and blue.
Plus Taylor of Old Bond St. , GF Trumpers, Truefitt &Hill have been made since 1850's to 1900 or so. Proraso as well.
It just takes you from "Aw shite! I have to shave." To. "Aw shite yeah, shaving today."

Somembody help me out.
I shave in the shower and that's not changing, but would you use these brushes and lathers with your DE in the shower?
Curious to switch off cartridges, but shower is a must.

Razor blades, wet hands, and my exposed twig and berries will always scare me.
The handle needs a lot of grip.

Merkur 23C, Astra Platinum blades, been using Proraso Green, but just ordered some Proraso Red to try out.

Still using the same Gillette fatboy. I use Proraso preshave and aftershave balm. The soap is TOB - Sandalwood.
As far as razors, I use this website. It allows you to mix and match hundreds of blades at a very cheap price. I believe the current blade I am using is a Rapira Chrome.

And with this cold weather my Scuttle really makes shaving nice and keeps my lather nice and warm.
Do you shave outside or not have a heater in your house?

Tried cold water shaving for a week.
I think it's much better than using hot water.
Got a closer shave on the neck and much less irritation.
Cold water is the way to go. It's odd at first, but once you get used to it it's money.
