I'm using the Gilette Fusion Proglide. The flexball technology is a game changer.

I also switched from the Gilette shave gel to Edge and I haven't looked back.

Currently I'm using a Merkur 34C, Parker synthetic brush, proraso green cream, razo rock alum block,feathers/Astra SP and proraso green aftershave lotion.

I'm also cold water shaving. I still get some razor burn after 3 months of wet shaving. I may go to a slant to see if that helps.

After I find the buttress I go directly to the second form. I mix a slag of cutting balm and activator, and once it's recapitulated I begin cutting the second form-usually with a 3 quarter pitch. I use a technique of stretching and compounding. Then I finish it off with a post firm glossing.

This actually made me laugh outloud. That video was so absurd.

There I gave you an upvote.

For the guy asking about Proraso... Probably nobody selling it in BR. BUT bath and body works sells CO Bigelowe in green. It is Proraso. Just repackaged. It is a great cream. Slick and makes a ridiculous amount of lather.

Okay, just read this whole thread and bits and pieces of the other.

Been using over the counter Gilette since I was 16. I have gone to only shaving once or twice a week because my skin can't handle it. It's miserable if I don't give 4-5 days between.

Any advise for a noob to the world or Feathers, safety razors, straight razors, etc? Difficulty, advise? I am miserable shaving with my Mach's and need help.

This is what I did - I found a starter kit with decent reviews from Amazon. My kit came with a Merkur 34C (a decent to good starting 3-piece razor) - and most decent kits will have Merkur or EJ 3-piece razor. Mine only came with 1 Merkur blade, so find a sampler pack with a similarly high rating. What you're going to do is try various blades from various manufacturers - looking for good results on your actual skin and beard - all the while working on your wet shaving technique.

A good set will include a razor (handle and head - I find most are interchangeable - I can use my Merkur 34C handle on my EJ DE89 head and vice versa), stand and badger brush. Most also include either soap or cream and some will add a bowl.

Once you collect a little gear (and this part is not inexpensive - I wouldn't go over $150 but, you can get started well under that if you're frugal) - find some wet shaving youtube vids and start shaving. The first shave might take an hour - it's like learning anything else. Go slowly - but you don't have to be afraid of the razor - I find most newbies are overly cautious and my problem now is that I get into a hurry and forget I'm shaving with real shaving gear - overconfidence.

Anyway, don't give up for at least 6 to 8 weeks - your technique should continually improve fairly dramatically over that time and your shaving time will go down.

In addition to youtube there are numerous online communities for support - I go to [link=(badger and blade)]Badger and Blade[/link] all the time, although I don't post there.

I've never gone overboard with the overpriced "Art of Shaving" stuff, but they have good resources, too.

You're god damned right.

Seriously. YouTube videos. Mantic59 has some good videos on how to begin. He looks pretty damned goofy and voice as well, but he is one of the main guys. Has tons of videos.

The videos with "buttress" are "Method Shaving" videos. That guy is crazy. Watch those to amuse yourself and see what not to do speed wise. Do not "pitch" your razor!! Like putting, if your wrist starts breaking when you are a beginner, you are doing it wrong.

Well the ones at the top are pretty much fool proof and work very well regardless of technique or experience.

Go to target and buy one of these LINK and some LINK if you like it and it is worth the effort to you go from there. I bought one just as a lark and they are actually excellent for the price and come with some blades.

Not for me, they didn't.

Not for me, they didn't.

And the DE blades themselves cost - literally, pennies. After the initial investment, I'm paying less then $30 (American) for 2 years of blades - versus, whatever, $5 a "blade" that I have to try to stretch for 2 weeks in the cartridges.

So, I guess it all matters what is important to you. If your beard and skin are accustomed to a less than optimal shave, and all you have is 3 minutes? Then I would recommend sticking with your chemsoap and "cartridges" composed of thin slivers of metal (and I won't derogate the quality of the metal - just not enough of it) encased in hugely expensive scaffolding - and just leave the rest of us alone.

Just my $0.02.

As I stated, I use B&B as a reference, but I do not post there (nor am I a member). I may have been to wicked edge once or twice.

Where did I attack or degrade how you do it? If I get a good shave from them, and millions of men do, why is it less than optimal?

It's a wet shaving thread, how I do it is still wet shaving isn't it? I'm in here reading the posts to learn, but my post wasn't critical of others it just pointed out the positives of the simple multiple blade disposable.
