Do you get any tax breaks or govt-backed incentives? If so, maybe we should tell you what to do in your everyday life.

Can't and shouldn't are 2 different things. They certainly can.

They shouldn't

They don't tell you who you have to associate with or why you must.

I'm just making sure people see the distinction. I wasn't necessarily responding to you in particular.

I think it's important to see why schools address hazing and segregation differently.

It's not an easy distinction. You don't want to tell people how they should feel in their hearts. That's totalitarianism. However, I believe the house girls wanted these girls in, but alumni said no. Attitudes towards race change. Who is imposing whose will now? It seems to me it's the alumni telling the girls how to feel and who to let in. Do they have that right? I'm not sure. Should they be allowed to do so? I don't think so, because I can't think of any legitimate reason as to why it serves the best interest of the organization.

The government has regulated private behavior before. We saw this during the Civil Rights Era. We also see this in laws forbidding discrimination in hiring, giving out loans, and housing.

If I cohabitate with two or more consenting adult women, and if we live as a family, then we can be arrested for polygamy.

The government most CERTAINLY has laws restricting how we associate with other people (not that I agree with it).

After the assassination attempt, Governor George Wallace renounced racism.

Why can't the University of Alabama?

Alabama has one of the most diverse student populations in the SEC. Over half the university is now from outside of Alabama, and they are near the top in terms of % black enrollment. UA, as an institution, has moved forward. The greeks have not. And that's their choice imho.

It's a shame that so many will blur the lines and try to make this out as UA itself being racist, when that's not the case.

I didn't read the whole thread, but did someone inform this retard I Love Bama that he can in fact join the NAACP? Go to the website, and there's a white dude right there on the sign-up page.

At least if you're going to be a racist moron, do your research before saying dumb shite like that. And good, the black girls are better off not being part of those shitty racist organizations.

They shouldn't be able to force a private social organization to do anything. That said, let these houses live and die by their decisions.

The way this should be changed is by boycotting/demonstrating/etc... not legislating it.

The University needs to react to this.

If they can't shut down the machine, they could at least sanction it.

Perhaps take away their football tickets.

I know money talks, especially machine money.

However, not all money is good money.

It's time for the University to stand up and do the right thing.

I don't see what the problem is here? No private org. should be told who there members should be. Minorities have enough things such as scholarships, job opportunities, etc that we are forced to give to them as a society.
