I fully support a private organization's right to do what it wants.

just don't try to tell me this move isn't racist, that's all.

Can't believe a fine institution such as bama allows this behavior

The law doesn't look at these the same way.

I can't wait till a well to do 5* eliminates Bama from consideration because of this and then influences others to do the same. I bet you every organization on campus will be integrated then

Good for them. They should run their clubs how they see fit.

I don't remember the whole story, but I thought the house voted them in but the house administration intervened and denied membership. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I though I read that a while back.

The black girls AND the white girls wanted them in, but the alums blocked it.

100% agree. Trashy and racist but that's their prerogative

Not if they are being partially supported by student dollars or tax dollars. That's where the line should be drawn.

Were people saying this when kids were hazing?

Physical harm isn't exactly the same but I don't necessarily agree with stopping private orgs and people voluntarily being stupid.

It's embarrassing.

After the assassination attempt, Governor George Wallace renounced racism.

Why can't the University of Alabama?

But the University stepped in and claimed they had the right to stop such activity. There was very little these private organizations could do then.

Its not the University, its the students. These students are taught this from the time they are born. Its ingrained into them that because they are white and well to do they can do what they want.

And I dont agree with that. So I dunno why you're bringing this up to me in particular Were alumni against the hazing like they were the integration of Greek? Could be a discrepancy.

I'm admittedly not well read on the whole hazing fiasco so I can't really comment too much

I was just addressing the argument that the University of Alabama can't / shouldn't do anything because the sorority is a private organization. The fact is that the University of Alabama can do something about if they so please.

They addressed hazing because they want parents to know that their kid is attending a university that's safe and won't tolerate reckless behavior. This (segregation by choice) is much different because they rely on donations from alumni and don't want to piss them off.
