I agree in general that they should be free to do what they want
I'm wondering, what the official relationship is between the school and the frat? You know now some might argue that whole point about a state school and taxpayer money, blah blah, blah.

"they" have their own and "they" have their own too.
I know many ppl that are in "other" races frats/sororities.

Sounds like the same argument for segregation. What else do you believe in? Separate but equal? Do go on.

Well duh. How else are you going to keep black people out of your sorority?

Is it legal? Sure. Is it racist as frick? Yes.
Don't try to disguise it as freedom.

agreed. Pure sophistry. A restaurant and a private organization that requires fees to become a member are completely different.

Yeah but we have all seen what happens when integration happens. Look at the EBR school system.

I don't see this as a big deal. A private club should be able to choose members however it feels like choosing members. Also why would I want to join something that doesn't want me to be part of it?
Posted on 3/29/14 at 12:04 pm to REG861
No, you are wrong. Denying membership based on race is racial discrimination. You want to put lipstick on it by calling it a private matter, then go ahead.
Posted on 3/29/14 at 12:05 pm to heartbreakTiger
it's a private club that is associated with a public university.
y'all are acting like it's a completely separate entity.

While I agree that it probably does reinforce the stereotypes associated with the state of Alabama, I do not agree with making a decision ( in this case, voting "yes")based solely on public relations.

Katie Smith the girl in the article is a really good friend of mine. This whole situation is sad but it's not going to ever change.
