From Wikipedia :"Non-Black Membership

All past and present members of the Congressional Black caucus have been black. In 2006, while running for Congress in a Tennessee district which is 60% black, white candidate Steve Cohen pledged to apply for membership in order to represent his constituents. However, after his election his application was refused. Although the bylaws of the caucus do not make race a prerequisite for membership, former and current members of the caucus agreed that the group should remain "exclusively black". In response to the decision, Rep. Cohen referred to his campaign promise as "a social faux pas" because "It's their caucus and they do things their way. You don't force your way in. You need to be invited."" He gave up trying!

Those racist SGA members...oh wait!...

Is there a black only club that you are citing here?

Here, I will let you finish the statement I think many are really saying

"It's a private organization, we should be able to choose who we want"

"And we don't want __________"

Should I throw a fit the naacp won't let me be a member?

Do gumps really think that white people can't join the NAACP? How can people be that ignorant?

As for private organizations being allowed to do whatever they want, fine, but they shouldn't be recognized by the University in any way. If a bunch of people want to live in a house together and exclude other races, good for them, but if the University recognizes them, then that's a public institution endorsing racism.

Haven't read the whole thread, so SIAP, but Greek organizations aren't competely private. They benefit from using University property, services, and facilities, and the University is entitled to set conditions for using the property, services, and facilities. That UA chooses not to is a poor reflection on the University.

So still. The resolution was just a statement, not an action or sanction. An empty gesture that all. The organizations were already being integrated especially with the stuff with Alumni denying black girls entrance which was later rectified.

My best friend took this at the probate (who is white). I know the kid and he's a very cool down to earth guy. There are plenty of white Kappas, or alphas.

They may but as stated earlier, the black congressional caucus doesn't. There is no clearer use of racism today than that by them ( as well as many of ther groups on obamas side ). I read through the fist few pages of this shite storm and I would like to know where are all you shite heads that are saying this isnt right etc but your mouth is shut when a group tied to the federal government of the US is openly and on record as being racist. If a fraternity/sorority dosent want to take a black person, more power to them. No diferent that them. It taking the fat kid, or the bad dresser. It's a social group. Get over it.

Since I am sure you will sluff off the first portion of Merriam-Webster's Dictionary's definition, I will lead that you believe the caucus is racist with this in mind

quote:

racial prejudice or discrimination

So, the black caucus is prejudiced and discriminate against white people. This is your argument that validates all else, given that this is openly and on record as being racist?

Sorry, but lulz.....

If it's a completely private org, then why is the schools SGA voting on any issue related to this? With UA's past on race relations, they should distance themselves far away from this.

While they are "private" they still fall under the umbrella of university oversight right?

That's what I'm thinking, and they should not be able to discriminate against any race.
