Has anyone said the place on FLorida between Cortana and Bon Marche simply called Watch Repair?
Watch Repair. That's all I know it as and I've had my Tag battery replaced twice and the crystal replaced there also. Very nice people.

Ball makes solid watches. My only nit to pick is they use tritium tubes so their watches with lumed numerals look like the number was built from Legos.
The reality is most name brand watches are solid for their price, some just represent a better value than others. That being said if you like the look of the IWC better than say a Sinn 556 then in the long run the IWC will still be a better value for you.
Rolex makes a great watch to wear forever partly due to their slowly evolving style. They do have baggage and the professional models are damn near unobtanium from ADs currently. It makes them hard to recommend.
While there are tons of great watches out there sometimes buying something to be different doesn't work out so well in the long run. It is like looking at sports cars and looking past the 911, it is popular for far more than just being a "Porsche".
If you have looked at a lot of watches and still prefer the IWC PP Mark XVIII then get it. It is a model with a long running history and is connected to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The Mark XVIII is also a good watch embodiment to one of his famous quotes "A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."

Perhaps I can help. I've been watching watch repair videos on Youtube and I stayed at the holiday inn express last night.

I did but just noticed the OP is in Houston. In Houston I would recommend Hal Martin's which is in the mid-price area.
If you want to ship a watch a lot of people I know have used Watch Buyers Group in Pasadena. Everyone seems pleased and the overhaul and shipping costs about $300. AFAIK they only service Rolex.

That must have occurred in the last couple of years. They were the first and only until Lee Michaels carried Omega. I’m still on the battery I had replaced three years ago.

I was 29 when I got my first luxury watch (Tudor). It was also the first year that I made a six figure salary.
ETA: IMO, it’s just like any other hobby. As long as you aren’t harming your ability to pay for necessities, go for it.
