I sent mine to Mark last time. He did a good job and was much faster than waiting on Rolex for weeks. Rolex is starting to be a pain on replacing parts on older watches, from what I have heard.

You can use the ADs to send them to Rolex or use watch repair on Florida or ship them to many of the independent Rolex repair shops around the country.

What movement is in the Omega? I am more picky with where the 8500 and newer coaxial movements get serviced.

Don’t go to Lee Michael’s they’re not certified in house. They Send it off to Rolex. Go see Nick at Adler’s across the street. He is certified.

Not that great, they will probably need to ship it to Omega

Slight hijack here, but Obtuse seems to be the man to ask. What’s your thoughts on an IWC le petit prince or mark xviii? I’m in the market for a sub $5k watch and want something that doesn’t stand out too much, plain face and a date. Any other suggestions that fit those parameters?

100% False. You do not know what you are talking about. They are certified.

How often do you change the battery in yours?

On my phone, never, and I don’t pay for the phone either. Keeps great time.
As for the fashion aspect, I quit caring about that when I was about 20.

The Petit Prince is a edition of multiple watches with a blue dial but you may be talking about the PP version of the Mark XVIII. I like the entire Mark series from IWC if you like the watch and get a good discount (10-15% on those currently) I would say it is a good buy.

That sort of criteria usually has me say 39mm Oyster Perpetual but with the price increase and the fact they are hard to find right now at ADs it won't fit your budget.

The Sinn 556 is an excellent watch for 1/3rd the price of the IWC. The Omega Railmaster is another to look at at a similar price to the IWC with proper discount and the Aqua Terra is one of those not very bold every day watches with lots of variations. Stowa has some excellent alternatives to the Mark XVIII at significantly lower prices.

In the end, the Mark XVIIIs are excellent every day watches since they are a reasonable size for most people and are highly legible. Some people will scoff at the IWC bang for the buck but if you like it and wear it for years even decades the price tends to become an afterthought. Of the modern Marks I like the triple date window on the Mark XVII, some people hate it but it is very practical when you are looking for the date at 15 minutes after the hour.

I bought mine 25 years ago. There wasn’t a choice.

Pick the one with the most Jewish sounding name in New Orleans and take it there

I sent a Seamaster Pro Planet Ocean to Swatch Group USA back in the December, took about 8 weeks, and luckily I just beat the COVID. I guess that's why you are probably looking for local service? They did a nice job and it was remarkably reasonable - they even sent me back the old parts (I changed the dial from the Rhodium Arabics at 12,6,9 to the Orange ones). I know they stopped receiving watches for repair for a little while, not sure if they are back at it.

I like RSC Dallas, and would strongly consider sending your OP there. It'll cost more, but they will absolutely stand behind it, not to mention you get a Rolex Warranty Card which is nice if you don't have the original one.

Some people just prefer the accuracy and/or grab and go attributes of quartz watches, not to mention the upfront and longterm being lower than a mechanical watch. My wife is also a watch lover but has a quartz Patek, a quartz JLC Reverso and several quartz Cartiers. They simply make more sense to her. She doesn't find the setting and winding of a watch an enjoyable experience and outside her Milgauss that she wears most of the time for work she usually hands me a mechanical watch to set/wind before she wears it because she derives no enjoyment from the process.

"Where'd you find this guy? I've been considering maintenance on a 8 year old Omega Speedmaster and this is tempting."

I found him on the web and have sent him at least 6 watches. He does a great job but does not work on stopwatches/chronographs as he calls them.

Thanks for the input, the PP version of the Mark is what I've been looking at. I'm willing to go over the price range I first mentioned and will look into those other suggestions, it just seems every other person has a rolex/omega whereas I rarely see someone with an IWC, and wanted to know if that was for a good reason or if it's just not as popular. On a different note, what are your thoughts on Ball watches?

I feel you on Mr K. He had my shite for months last time for something minor. Wouldn’t answer calls or anything. I ended up having to go in check each time and wait forever. I don’t know a good option but any certified service center would be fine for normal maintenance or repair.
