I use it because I'm faster than the person at the register.

My complaint is that my local walMarque does not have enough self check out stations. I suggested to LaFanta that they needed more and she replied, "fer sure hon !".

This. My only gripe is when they want to check my receipt on the way out. No problem using self checkout, but if you want to know what's in the bags and slow me down, then open up a register and scan the items yourself.

It isn’t automated. You are doing the work instead of them.

If you use self checkout you should get a 10% discount across the board.

Idiots like you who gleefully skip into that shite fricked the rest of us. If I'm doing the shopping and the checking out, give me a cut.

ETA: We are so far beyond self checkout being an issue now that this thread is pointless. I've now moved on to plotting my slip n' fall insurance scam....err....claim involving the robotic floor waxing machines becoming more prevalent now.

How is it benefitting the customer? You don't pay a cheaper price for using it and they aren't paying you to do the work.

Gives me an alternate option to the standard checkout process with a cashier.

If there are no lines, I'll go the old school way and let a cashier check me out.

If there are long lines, I use the self checkout because it's much faster.

I don't understand people who get angry at self check outs. If you don't like them, don't use them.

Some places suck. Like Winn Dixie.

No matter what one i go to, the person running the self checkout has to go around fixing everybody's stuff constantly.

But i never have issues at walmart and walmart has the full lane ones with the conveyor belt.

Oh and yeah, this isnt automation, you are scanning your items instead of the $15/hr employee.

Depends on which store I'm buying from, and how many items I have. There are certain WalMart neighborhood markets with a legit conveyer belt at the self checkout. I don't mind it, even with a full buggy, because I load the belt the same way I would if a cashier was there. Frozen and refrigerated items together, boxes together, produce together, bread and eggs together etc. It might take a few minutes longer since I completely unload before starting to check out. On the flip side, the Publix near me has the small checkouts with no belt. I'll pretty much always wait in a line there to check out if I have more than a dozen items.

Saves a hell of a lot of time and people aren’t lining up for these jobs

when I have to scan a whole basket full of groceries and bag them myself - it sucks
I feel for some elderly single person that has to do it all at Walmart by themselves and even if they have groceries delivered straight to their house they still have to bring them all in the house

if it's a quick trip with minimal items it's not bad at all

I normally don’t go to Sam’s after 10 but I had to stop in there this afternoon to pick something up. Was in there 5 minutes total using the scan and go. Only reason it took me that long is I had to go to the back of the store to get item. Lines were full of people waiting to check out. Plus they offer discounts on items occasionally if you scan and go.

I use Scan and Go at Sam's, amazes me to see long lines at the check out and self check out when customers have that option.

The scan and pay function on their app is even better. Scan items as you put them in the cart, pay once you are finished, show the Sam's person at the exit door and they will scan a few items with the handheld and away you go.

I refuse to use self checkouts because:

A: Super-one, years back, would give you a 10 cent discount on the dollar if you bagged your own groceries. That concept should apply to self checkout.

B: Every grocery store that has implemented it has raised prices across the board on every good and service there while cutting the costs of employees. Why should I work to benefit them cutting their own costs.

C: They always ring up my groceries and bag them faster than I do. I'd rather wait in line and deal with someone getting paid for it than do my own work.

Winn Dixie's is the worst because they have built in scales on theirs, and it is a small bagging area. You have to keep your stuff in that small area. If you have more items that do not fit in that area, which is likely 90% of the time you go there, the shite goes haywire. Once you start removing bags to make room for more items, the scale resets and it thinks you are trying to steal.

Whereas WalMart's are built for actualy checking out, complete with a full lane, etc. The bagging area is huge and it doesn't have the scale.

That's my expert opinion on the matter.

The WM Neighborhood Market I go to occasionally has that, but that place pisses me off from the time I turn into the damn parking lot. For starters, it was a small lot to begin with. They then decided a year after opening to put in a shitty little gas station that takes up half the parking lot. Few people use it because it is higher on everything and the station directly across the road beats their gas prices. Then, once everything went to shite with Covid they decided to make around a third of the spots left curbside pickup. That doesn't matter to me because those spots are fair game and no employee gives enough of a shite to tell you otherwise. Making matters worse is it is a terribly designed parking lot that is hard to get into and out of.

Once inside and you get your shite there is one register with a person open that has a line, and about a twenty deep line of people at the self-checkouts. Despite having on average 6-8 useless fricks standing around up front at any given time, they will never, ever open one of the three other person-operated registers they have available.

Then, we can talk about the Mad Max level of clientele shopping their on a given day and it feels like you've done battle when you finally get your shite back to your car.

I have left that shithole, driven across town, got the same shite at Publix, paid a cashier, loaded it, and gotten back on the road in less time than I probably would have spent standing in line. That included a kid that at least acted like he gave a shite asking me if I was ready to check out as I was passing his register.

How does it benefit those who lost their low end job? How does it benefit those of us who didn’t? We’re not getting lower prices or less increase in prices, and now we’re likely picking up the tab for the people who have been automated out of a job
