I hear people refuse to use self checkouts because they claim its taking someones job.

Or they say that they don’t work there so they will not do the job the store employees are paid to do.

Are these people stuck in the 20th century? Can’t they see technology is changing things in the job market? Don’t they realize these low end jobs are better off being automated? Or that technology is offering up new types of jobs and opportunities?

HEB has self checkout but their check out lanes are world class. They always have a scanner and a bagger and you fly through.

I use Scan and Go at Sam's, amazes me to see long lines at the check out and self check out when customers have that option.

How is it benefitting the customer? You don't pay a cheaper price for using it and they aren't paying you to do the work.

I only use self check if I have limited items. For a real trip someone is checking my shite out.

So you think the low end people who fill these jobs should simply get free money?

Most people I notice who talk shite about them don't use them because they are arrogant pricks that think they are above it.

Which is stupid. I love self checkout. I know I can do it quickly and it minimizes my time in the store.

Then give me a discount for doing 2/3’s of the work myself.

It isn't that they're arrogant, its that they're bad at technology and won't admit it. To most of us, keying in 4011 for bananas and placing the item in the bagging area isn't hard. Self checkout rules.

Let the old geezers/boomers clog up the regular checkout lanes while writing checks and holding everyone up. The younger generation can fly through the self check out.

Small # of items - self checkout.
Large # of items - regular checkout.

Perhaps the prices on the food increased less than they would have over the course of the rolling out period.

The price comparison is not vs what the prices were before the lanes were implemented, it is to what theprices would be now.

What is the new technology?
What is being automated?

It's the same scanner and bagging station.

Either an employee scans and bags or the customer scans and bags themselves.

It takes more time at self checkout for me. Every damn item fails to get weighed by the machine, and then the machine tells me that I have to bag it even though it is already in the bag. Forget that.

In my experience they aren’t very efficient and take longer. My local cvs has only self checkout and it hardly ever works. Always says it’s not picking up my item in the bag area or whatever. Same issue with my Costco. And the one at Whole Foods has difficulty scanning a lot of items and an employee has to come and type in a code for it to process.

If you’re going to have them then they better be efficient and quick, otherwise I’m going to the usual check out line.

Yea if I have more than like 2 or 3 items I’m going employee checkout every time.
